Yes all real :tearsofjoy:

1. Reading Tanakh, goes to Chabad to cross-reference something.

'Why is the succeeding chapter linked on the right??? I don't get it?'

Oh.
And wondering why I seem predisposed to read a certain verse a certain way, goes back to a Christian Bible to check if it's memorised from there,

'What the...why is this book all the wrong way rou...WHAT'S WITH THE COLUMNS??'

Oh yeah, this. I forgot about this.

2. 'Rival! What are you doing?'
'Washing my hands.'
'Again?'

Yes again.
3. 'Oh nice Rival! That long dress will be good for winter!'
'Thanks!'
'And that one.'
'Thanks!'

Glad you like them. You're not just going to be seeing them in winter.
4. Dad on Friday evening, 'Help me find out why the power's off! The lights aren't working.'
[in head] 'Cos it's Shabbat.'

...Wait

Do you mean that all Christian Bibles have columns like that?
Yeah, I'd say 90% or more of them have. I have only come across 2 that didn't. I had a friend who was very confused when she read one with single columns and she was like, 'Where does the Bible bit begin??'

As far as I'm aware,

1. Tradition from copying scrolls to book and keeping the column like format.
2. Fit more words on a page.
3. Modern readers come to expect it.

You know who else had to copy scrolls to books?
Sure do.

That's what I was told when I asked when I was a Christian, and it's apparently the reason why reference sections and so on use double-column formats, so... it seems to? They use tiny fonts tho.

Edit,

It's wrong.

Saving space with columns

"I filled a page with placeholder text and then placed the same text on a page with two columns. The two-column text ran several lines onto another page, even with a fairly narrow gutter (space) between the columns."

Learning! Isn't it great :D

Ahh traditions of men!
As you would say,

That's right!

(It's always that).

I didn't know reference sections do that. The only books I have that do that are indices, so they're breaking the information up into smaller pieces.

I'm actually channeling a friend who says it a particular way. A sort of confident but emphatic agreement to the proposition.

When your pyjamas are black bottoms and white top and you didn't realise they say 'BROOKLYN' on the top in small font when you bought them, it feels like HaShem's having a little joke :flushed:
