Imagine if everyone knew not only how much money you had, but what you were spending it on.

Would charity increase? Would good people be able to be helped better when they were in trouble?

Again, please quote my post if you want me to reply.

It may not be a choice. Some Christians are afraid of being chipped, but that looks like that will be unneeded technology. Facial recognition, retina recognition, finger print verification are all real now and getting every more popular. There will be no need for an ID in the future, a person will be his own ID.

Full ID is a matter of fact of our future, but there are ways for people to avoid others knowing their finances, but most are not willing to do it.

Personally I have never made much money and do well personally, and could care less what other people know.

Autonomy is a human need, and that necessitates privacy as well as the ability to start over with a new identity. That need expresses itself in many ways, and there are evidences in law that people have it. It is therefore also a right. We need to be able to be forgiven for our past, to re-ascend as it were. We also need to be trusted, and full ID does not allow for this.

Consider our public highways and how little control you have over the driver who is going maybe 120 in the opposite direction and separated from you by only a stripe of paint. It works on trust. Take the trust out, and the highways don't work. Lots of things are like that, and its systemic, endemic. Life runs on this like water. You can't have absolute ID. It just won't work. It will be a disaster I think.

Maybe not excessively, but we could definitely save some lives that way, and that's something I'm hard up for.
I still feel like saying no. We could control everyone better with full ID; but we would make everyone doubt themselves. Its analogous to living in a glass room. Also, what if the government starts persecuting people, as it always does on occasion. They'll have zero places to run to. Its better that if there is a full ID that its not under the control of the government, that we don't allow the government to test our identities so often, so easily and so well. They don't need to know that I am purchasing a beer or that I am reading a at the local cafe. Its simply nobody's business but mine.

I think it can be done. We just need to invent a way to extend the power of government oversight while keeping ourselves in charge of it.

How do you keep private that which the government has no business knowing?
We could have security codes so that the government can't read the data directly. Then a person who's in need can voluntarily show their money and how they've spent money and a person who wants to keep it private can keep it private.

I don't know... I have faith that there's a way. There's a will... we don't want people dying... so there's a way.

Possibly. What is a bit scary is that full ID may happen even if we do not want it.

The current government is founded on the principle of limiting and balancing powers, but it is precariously close to unbalancing those powers and delimiting those limits. If you can fix the current problems then I'm open to the idea. Currently ballots have 2 parties pre-written on them. Its like no other parties exist. Corporations lobby better than minorities, than individuals, than entire segments of the population. If, for example, one or two big corporations wanted to they could ruin us all currently. We've have no ability to stop them without rebelling.

It's difficult to establish so much trust in government but could be of great benefit.
