God and a after life

We Never Know

No Slack
No one knows if a god does or doesn't exist. No one knows if there is anything after death. There is no evidence of either. That being said we say those that accept both/either is faith based.

Does that mean those that don't accept them are faithless because it's all about evidence? I doubt that because they have faith in other things like their kids for example even when sometimes the evidence shows different they will still have faith.

If a person is not a scientist does that person have faith to believe what science says or do they just accept it because they have no faith for anything different such as a god?

So how and or what dictates what a person will have faith in?

How many different meanings for the word "faith" do you count in your OP? Just curious how alert you are to the semantic confusion you're busy sowing.

Faith is simply believing without knowing.

If Joe has faith god exists, he believes that without knowing.

If Bob has faith his son will grow to be great, he believes that without knowing.

If Bill agrees the earth is 4.5 billion years old because of the science evidence, unless he is a scientist, he believes that without knowing because he accepts the science evidence on faith(without really knowing).

But since you brought it up, how many meanings of faith do you think there are?

I have a format for 'theism without faith'.

That isn't completely literal, as belief will or should be attained, at some point.

This also covers a rational explanation, for deity, the nature of the 'universe', [to a practicality, and various other things, that aren't in books, however that is extra, to that.[clarify most things actually are in books, somewhere, it's knowing what is true, so forth.

So, I would say that your question isn't necessarily relevant, to what we consider Theism.

How does a person decide what to and what not to have faith in? What are the criteria for faith?

If Bill agrees the earth is 4.5 billion years old because of the science evidence, unless he is a scientist, he believes that without knowing because he accepts the science evidence on faith(without really knowing).

That applies to so much in life that I find the example to be too vague to be useful. I have faith that a plumber knows what she's doing, that a doctor knows what he's doing, that my friend won't kill me tomorrow, that our dog won't pee on the bed tonight, that my wife won't kill me while I sleep and so forth.

So that definition of faith is so broad that without it, you effectively cease to exist as a functioning human being.

My understanding of science comes from a couple of different perspectives. The most obvious one is that science works - I'm typing on a computer connected to the internet because of the fundamental knowledge that has come from scientific research. The antibiotic that saved me life came from scientific research and so forth. I also have a degree in chemistry and know how the scientific method works from the inside, as it were. So I don't call belief in science "faith" but rather knowledge that comes from experience.

Ah but as I said if someone seemsit a scientist then they don't know.
They only know what they are told and have to have faith it is correct.

And.... "I have faith that a plumber knows what she's doing, that a doctor knows what he's doing, that my friend won't kill me tomorrow, that our dog won't pee on the bed tonight, that my wife won't kill me while I sleep and so forth." You have faith in all that because you really don't know. Any of it could be wrong because due to any circumstance. The dog could have an accident, the plumber could be inexperienced, the Dr could make a mistake, your friend could suffer brain trauma and freak out, etc.

Like it or not, we take many every day things with faith. That this it won't happen, that this won't change, etc.

That is not correct. We very well know what happens after death. Disintegration and dispersal of what constitutes us (slow in case of burial and faster in all other cases including cremation). What is it that you do not know about it?

Yeah, we do. Experience confirms it - that there will be a tomorrow.

Yes that is what happens to what religious call the vessel(our body). Then is there is the soul(if it exists). What happens with it? Does it just cease or go on? Can you show evidence for or against it?

Any evidence for existence of 'soul' or whatever it means? Buddha said do not take things on faith.
Kalama Sutta - Wikipedia
How can one show evidence for what does not exist?

Exactly, hence the word faith.

I'm getting older, my brain isn't as sharp as it used to be. With that said....

We say we've seen millions of planets 1000's of light years away, seen millions of galaxies millions of light years away but yet we don't even know what exists in our own neighbourhood(our solar system, Google the 9th planet).

@Polymath257 how can we know so much about the universe but so little about our solar system?

Yes that is a good question, agreed. That does vary, however, I would say that if one is concerned about morality, then there is a God form, or aspect, for that. That aspect eludes, or precludes, a direct problem of morality, because it is somewhat impersonal, except for our achievement, or lack thereof.

I believe it is wise to be cautious, about explanations, pertaining to morality, however. The perception, is limited, in other words, thusly a false estimation of what should make up a 'good deity', these estimations are often flawed.

Man uses signs to guide
Faith comes from sensory knowledge, faith is not just about physical experience

GOD says about him self
99 And it is He who sends down water from the sky. With it We produce vegetation of all kinds, from which We bring greenery, from which We produce grains in clusters. And palm-trees with hanging clusters, and vineyards, and olives, and pomegranates—similar and dissimilar. Watch their fruits as they grow and ripen. Surely in this are signs for people who believe.

From this talk I see that there is a diet prepared for human elaborately
And we are taken care of for our life cycle

But we do not maintain our mental health in linking information properly

Anyone who has different faith claims or philosophies has no basis or reference, on which to base them (stand on it)
Basing on them
What makes his words true and my words wrong

That is why I believe that there is a Creator who has no beginning and no end that manages the universe

i dont believe that organism has a life cycle and dies and no stones are gods because, over time, it becomes another substance by erosion

And we toke the news from the first human source (adam) and the voting system will vote a lot that there is a creator, but the difference is who is the true God

Each will choose as desired
But logic says he does not die does not sleep
God holds the heavens and the earth like electromagnetic energy, if God is tired or sleep the stars fall or collide

Humans have lusts
They know that illegal relationships are illegal
But they do it in secret because (lusts)

They also know that there is a maker and creator of this universe but they want to search for a god that enhances their lusts
Some worship cow and some worship historical figures

The love of physical worship on earth is a mental illness
This mental illness turned into habits and then traditions and then a sacred element in beliefs

The result
Belief in God is a product of common sense and subjective knowledge

Seems that you do not have much interest in Astronomy.

That is only a matter of convention of what can be termed as a planet (IAU definition of planet - Wikipedia). Actually, we have millions of asteroids* (largest, Ceres, with a diameter of 1,000 km), Centaurs (largest, Chariklo, with a diameter of 250 km), Kuiper belt objects* and comets, which revolve around the sun.

* "The asteroid belt contains tens of thousands, possibly millions, of objects over one kilometre in diameter." Solar System - Wikipedia
* "Since its discovery, the number of known KBOs has increased to thousands, and more than 100,000 KBOs over 100 km (62 mi) in diameter are thought to exist." Kuiper belt - Wikipedia
Kuiper belt is some 750 million km from the sun.

Asteroid Belt, Ceres, Kuiper Belt.

I take you believe in a human creator/a god and that he/she/it should be honored.
If we we are a product of nature/evolution with no god/creator needed, what then?

Just a simple question. Do you need to believe in a creator/god to live a good life and live right or do you think you would live the same life of doing right without a creator/god?
