Become a better writer?

Hope you are all well!

Just found this massive site - the very first article that caught my eye was this collection of writing tips -

Here is a little taste -

All of this deliberate improvement presupposes that this is even the right paradigm for thinking about improving creative skills. While I lean in favor of this view, others might argue that creative skills are either impossible to evaluate in terms of goodness, or that analytical approaches to mastery are doomed to fail.

One argument might be that “quality” itself in writing is totally arbitrary. Van Gogh was a brilliant painter. However his work went largely unrecognized in his lifetime. The art world around him certainly didn’t see his work as being anything special, until they changed their minds and made him one of the most famous painters of all time.

I'm probably one of the best writers on RF.

If that is the case, I should maybe read more of your posts!

How did you become such a great writer?

Ciao!

Really, I think it's something that just comes natural to certain people -you either have it, or you don't. Sort of like destiny, if you will.

People just started writing to tell me I suck though. or is that paranoid ? There wouldn't be a forum except we got setup for people to think I suck.

Haven't read your link yet, but....
Writing was always difficult for me in school.
How to write? What to write? How much to write?
Finally, a technical writing prof told my class the secret which shouldn't be secret....
1) Understand your audience.
2) Know what you want to convey to your audience.
3) Convey it efficiently in a manner suited to them.

Yeah, that works...

That paragraph pretty much kills any advice that that writer might give right there...it's written well above the average reader...or writer, for that matter...

My advice is (mostly) write short, simple sentences. One thought to a sentence, and one topic to a paragraph. Use simple clear expressions. And don't try to be cute or funny.

Even more basic are these two ways of improving your writing: read a lot (and study the writing), and write a lot--and then edit your writing.
