Vaping - smoking and gambling for a modern audience?

I can remember back in the early 1960s seeing an article in New Scientist concerning the link between smoking and lung cancer (the link had been made earlier), which was effective enough so as to inhibit any further smoking I might have done (probably measured in a few packets at that age being still a teenager), and I even tried to persuade my friends to do so too - unsuccessfully mainly. Perhaps the waste of money also persuaded me.

Is vaping in the same position - that is, we are not sure about the true dangers? :smilingimp: :eyes:

Generally speaking, I think it's foolish to knowingly and willingly adopt an expensive habit that may well have negative health consequences. Unfortunately, when we're young and want to be "cool" like our friends, we don't think about the future consequences of our decisions, and so we become susceptible to the lies and manipulation of corporate business entities that would literally kill us for fun and profit.

No...

Polypropylene Glycol is a well understood substance and safe for any sort of human contact unless you have an allergy to it. Some people do, some people don't. But, it's in shampoos, it's used to spread flavors in food and drink items, and so on. The other component of vape juice is Vegetable Glycerin - again, an extremely safe and well known product -- and literally is just the fat of soybeans. Edible, etc... PG and VG are also used in fog makers for shows and live drama performances... These chemicals are safe for any use practically. There is some debate on the safety of flavorings -- but it's a complex issue... Generally manufacturers are using whatever is certified for food grade, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's safe to breathe. PG is often found in asthma inhalers, and VG is in other medical use inhalation products.

Nicotine (in pure form, extracted from tobacco) is a non-toxic stimulant -- it won't harm you either. These dumb kids were buying THC carts from pop-up stands at extreme discounts and then wondering why they were getting messed up. This is not the typical vape experience.

Anyway -- since I've done it, here is real over-vape symptoms: (Most of these effects occur from o-d of nicotine.)

1) Fatigue
2) Abdominal Pain
3) Muscle spasms
4) Acid Reflux (don't get this, but many do)
5) Sore throat (PG is pretty rough, higher VG juice + lower nic will ease this)
6) Constipation/Diarrhea (more likely the first one)
7) Pins and Needles or burning sensation on skin

None of these will end you up in the hospital and resolve naturally in a manner of hours if you cease the puffing.

Is there the possibility of bacteria or other harmful organisms growing in these appliances - since they are reused - and becoming a problem?

I'd like to be able to smoke cigars while I'm playing blackjack at an Illinois Casino. I shouldn't have to travel to Indiana in order to be able to smoke inside a casino.

I'd think the PG would kill them as it is a natural desiccant. This is generally how rubbing alcohol does the same thing.

Av been vaping for almost a year now and av never really had a problem with it ,the only time av not vaped is when i have a cold or flu
my husband also vapes and he is healthy and he been vaping more than me ...i think that if a person with lung disorders shoulnt vape such people who have asthma or any other lung disorder there is more of a risk for them or getting unwell

The People's Republic of New York has now decreed vaping to be illegal and forbidden in New York.

It is the decree of people's chairman Andrew Cuomo that must and will be obeyed.

Or suffer the people's consequences.

I'll bet the big tobacco corporations are behind this to kill the competition. It's the same as when they banned clove cigs with the "flavoring attracts kids" nonsense, but they don't touch menthols. Notice that they're including menthol vape in this ban. That gives us a clue as to who is behind this. The "for the kids" excuse is just a distraction from what's really going on.

Cuomo is just another corporate whore like most Dems and Reps are. Just another attack on small local business, as most vape liquids are made and sold by local vape shops.

Perhaps all this is mainly teething problems, with lack of legislation being a major issue, but there still might be an overall problem with the vaping process itself. It took long enough for tobacco smoke to be recognised as the danger it was so at least any concerns are being raised quite speedily. Enough lives were/are destroyed by smoking such that we would be foolish to contribute a new means of killing ourselves.

And yet more:

E-cigarettes are not worth the risk to heart health, experts warn

The report expressed particular concern for children and teenagers who started vaping without ever having smoked traditional cigarettes, as the majority of research into e-cigarette usage has focused on adults, typically those with a history of smoking. It called for further research into the first, second and third-hand effects of vaping to better understand its effect on humans, adding there are also too few studies to suggest vaping is safe for pregnant women.
