I can remember back in the early 1960s seeing an article in New Scientist concerning the link between smoking and lung cancer (the link had been made earlier), which was effective enough so as to inhibit any further smoking I might have done (probably measured in a few packets at that age being still a teenager), and I even tried to persuade my friends to do so too - unsuccessfully mainly. Perhaps the waste of money also persuaded me.
Is vaping in the same position - that is, we are not sure about the true dangers?
