Menstrual blood on Australian TV

Bob Jones

Prove It!
The advertising watchdog has dismissed hundreds of complaints about a TV commercial for sanitary products which depicts menstrual blood for the first time on Australian television.
Complaints ranged from bad taste to inappropriate to vilification and humiliation of women by publicising a private matter, to concern for children being too young to see blood running down a woman’s leg in the shower. But the board found the ad did not breach any standards in its code of ethics.(BBC)
I surely agree with the complaining parents. It surely is in bad taste depicting on TV such a natural occurrence. What next male masturbation?

I'm not sure why this is a problem. If anything, it might help out the girls who will be experiencing this later in their lives to not be as freaked out when it happens.

`Could this be handled privately or with proper sex education at school?

WWMRD?
They need to get over it, for far too long have many religions treated menstruation as a "state of filth" and it has poisoned the public mind as if it were something taboo instead of normal. If men had periods menstrual blood would probably be called holy ochre.

I'd probably rather not watch it, as a matter of choice.... but it's really not any worse than any American commercial these days. Just the subject is different.

I think that it is something that should never be spoken of in public. It is an important and natural process of the female body that we should make those that experience feel deep and abiding shame for. It should be hidden away since the process that nurtures the fetus during gestation is an abomination.

Now poop jokes, those are funny.

They should.

Glad you recognized the sarcasm. Of course, I expect that level of intelligence and sophistication from you, but I am still expecting someone will respond as if I were serious about the first part.

As a gay American male,

I can totally understand the strong attachments to the good old Scriptural days. When women, and their "issues", were kept in seclusion. Unless a person wanted to procreate, have a meal, or get a cold brewski between commercial breaks on TV.

Why can't we just go back to the world God intended? Why do you hate God?
