Why wasn't Jesus married?

Didn't almost all other biblical prophets have wives - many of them? Is there evidence in the bible Jesus wasn't married? Why shouldn't he have been?

From what I can understand, giving into the basic nature of his man side would have somehow disqualified him for being considered a perfect divine sacrifice for humanity?

If you study Jewish culture, you learn that Jesus (yes, he was Jewish) should have married.

Then if you look at certain scripture (not included in the bible), you discover Jesus' more human side and that he was married.

Some view Jesus as being married to the church, as told by the story of one of the women in Revelation.

The church is called the bride of Christ in the NT, and it is called the body of Christ in the NT. It is called both of these things.

Jesus in the four gospels, on the other hand, may have been married. The gospels do not comment upon it, nor upon the situation of most of his disciples. A lot of information about Jesus is not in the gospels. There is in the gospels a story about a wedding where Jesus is in charge, and many feel that means it is his own wedding. Its also very possible that the servants in the story are his disciples.

Lets ponder why priests are single in the Roman churches. Lets brainstorm. Whether Jesus marries or not, the marriage is not at the center of the gospel story; because there is neither male nor female in Christ. Jesus says those who are resurrected neither marry nor are given in marriage, and he says that those who repent from sin have been resurrected. That is, those who repent and are alive in Christ must deny themselves. Stringent, isn't it? Most people don't like this part. I could be wrong of course, and the priests themselves don't provide this reasoning.

  • Obviously, you have never been married OR you have a very low standard of perfection. I've been married for 39 years and have a wife who is far better than I deserve. But my wife's family, excluding my mother- and father-in-law, are a nest of vipers and have provoked me to sin so many times that, if I don't get into Heaven, it will be because I failed to trust my God every time that I was around them. Moreover, I've never met a perfectly righteous man who was married, unless and until his wife has trained him properly.
  • Besides, ... Haven't you heard? as at least one Baha'i says,
    • "I believe that Baha'u'llah was the return of Jesus and all the other Manifestations of God. On that I stake my life." [Source: A Baha'i Conundrum (by invitation only), posted by Trailblazer in post #28]
  • The Baha'i purportedly believe that Jesus came back to earth, and in that incarnation
    • He was a Persian, initially named Mírzá Ḥusayn-`Alí Núrí, born 12 November 1817 (Muharram 2, 1233 AH), in Tehran
    • He was revealed/or revealed himself [I still don't know which] as Baha'u'llah in 1844,
    • According to wikipedia, Bahá'u'lláh had three wives.
      • He married his first wife Ásíyih Khánum, the daughter of a nobleman, in Tehran in 1835, when he was 18 and she was 15. She was given the title of The Most Exalted Leaf and Navváb.
      • His second wife was his widowed cousin Fátimih Khánum. The marriage took place in Tehran in 1849 when she was 21 and he was 32. She was known as Mahd-i-`Ulyá.
      • His third wife was Gawhar Khánum and the marriage occurred in Baghdad sometime before 1863.
      • He had 14 children, four daughters and ten sons, five of whom he outlived. Bahá'ís regard Ásíyih Khánum and her children Mírzá Mihdí, Bahíyyih Khánum and `Abdu'l-Bahá to be the Bahá'í holy family.
LOL!

Maybe he was gay? Maybe nobody was too
interested in a wandering faith healer?

And of course, too- nobody actually knows
when or where he was born, nor where and when
he died. For nine tenths of his life there is not
even the pretense of a record.
What record there is is dubious, believable
only to someone who decided in advance to believe
anything. See "nativity", for one.
All "sayings" are written down many years later,
with the usual explanation being that "god" made
sure the scribes memory was perfect.

So was he married, or left handed? Nobody
actually knows.

  • LOL!

First, it is a misconception that one needs direct experience with something to understand it. I have never personally tasted feces, but I am certain in acknowledging that it is neither tasteful nor healthy.

Secondly, your villainous laugh needs work. ;)

If you're going to create a new religion you need to make sure you have some unique selling points.

True. The Christians make much of the things
they take to be "unique" (different is automatically
better).

As every blade of grass is unique, the point would
be if there is something importantly unique.

Die and come back to life / promise to return in glory
is sure not unique in myth.
Nothing in the teachings is unique.

So....?

None of the translations say it like that. Rather, "in the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage".

Matthew 22:30 In the resurrection, people will neither marry nor be given in marriage. Instead, they will be like the angels in heaven.
I have not included quotes, and it is a paraphrase.

So Jesus married his body?
It says Christ not Jesus in these cases, and that is different since all Christians are Christened. Its probably not talking about the man Jesus here.

So, he didn't poop, or sleep, have sexual feelings, or any other thing that makes us human? Jesus was not human?
