Genesis 2. Suggest to get Nachmanides's " Commentary on the Torah".

The Torah is the first five books of the Bible, also called the Books of Law. They were the first portion of the Bible to be completed. Were they the first sacred texts in the world? I don't know for sure, but I seriously doubt it. I'm sure the Sumerians and Egyptians had sacred texts before the earliest parts of the Torah were written.

The Torah doesn't mention spirits at all, or any afterlife (including soul sleep). The idea of the world to come came later with the prophets.
