Now isn't that a very peaceful and christian act to do lol

Blackwell, Oklahoma. On September 8, Sean Cormie’s parents invited him and his partner, Gary Gardner, to attend church with them in Blackwell, Oklahoma. The two decided to go but got something they did not expect. “At the end of the sermon, about 12 to 15 people grabbed Sean and pinned him down,” said Gardner. “They wanted to ‘pray the gay away’ on him.”When Gardner was finally able to get to his partner, he saw that Sean had many bruises and a black eye. This incident purportedly took place at the Blackwell First Assembly of God Church.

I don't understand Christianity.
Why must the object of prayer be immobilized?
Must he be kept near the ones praying because
of some proximity effect? Or is it like a CAT scan,
during which the patient must be motionless?

I bet now the church will have to pay, not pray , to get the lawyer away.

Of course it would have to be an Assemblies of God Church. The second lowest common denominator next to Pentecostals in Christendom.

Looks like they were trying to pray the gay away and the gay just wanted to get away.

Bruises and a black eye?
Prayer does not require use of physical force.
I think that's sad and a missed opportunity to show some love.

Assembly of God, I attended one of these churches one time, scared the hell out of me. Certainly not part of the conservative Christian community.

If that is true they are evil, and should be prosecuted for their crime.

Yeah, that's true.

"I'm worthy of God's love and you are not"
A lot of courage and willingness from the two that accepted the invitation. What a screw up.

Heh.

Doug and I went to his ex wife's Pentecostal church a couple of times. I think she was hoping that Jesus would smite us right there on the church steps.

But He didn't.

About a year later the congregation blew up when a few of the wives started comparing notes. Turned out that the minister was banging several of them, the ones who came in for marriage counseling.

This puts me in mind of what I posted in the "fundamentalists" thread, i.e., that fundamentalists tend to have an unhealthy obsession with sex. Interesting that we never hear of fundamentalists pinning down obese people to "pray the gluttony away", or rich people to "pray the greed away".

The pastor of the Pentecostal church I had to attend as a kid, touched me inappropriately when I was 14, quite a number of the 'born again' Christians were having extramarital affairs.
