The biogeographic evidence for evolution

exchemist

That's the one. When I heard that I was done. The speaker looked like it might be Steve Austin. He has a legitimate PhD in geology. He became famous among creationists when he dated rocks to disprove radiometric dating. The only problem was that he made errors that a geology undergrad would not make. So either he was lying, or he is so incompetent that not only should his PhD be revoked, he should even have his basic BS or BA questioned.
You mean this guy?

Or am I getting confused?

Few creationists are familiar with the biogeographic evidence for evolution, yet it is one of the strongest pieces of evidence for evolution.

Why do species on islands resemble species on the nearest mainland, even if there is a vast difference in environmental conditions between the island and the mainland? If a creator was independently creating species, why would he create species on islands that are similar to those on the nearest continent or mainland? The species found on islands such as the Galapagos, while distinct from the species of the nearest mainland, resemble them more closely than they resemble the species of other islands with more similar environmental conditions, indicating that the species on the islands descended and evolved from the species on the nearest mainland.

This is what Darwin had to say on the subject:

"The naturalist, looking at the inhabitants of these volcanic islands in the Pacific, distant several hundred miles from the continent, feels that he is standing on American land. Why should this be so? Why should the species which are supposed to have been created in the Galapagos Archipelago, and nowhere else, bear so plainly the stamp of affinity to those created in America? There is nothing in the conditions of life, in the geological nature of the islands, in their height or climate, or in the proportions in which the several classes are associated together, which closely resemble the conditions of the South American coast: in fact, there is a considerable dissimilarity in all these respects.... Facts such as these admit of no sort of explanation on the ordinary view of independent creation; whereas on the view here maintained, it is obvious that the Galapagos Islands would be likely to receive colonists from America, whether by occasional means of transport or (though I do not believe in this doctrine) by formerly continuous land ...such colonists would be liable to modification,—the principle of inheritance still betraying their original birthplace."

Creationists cannot explain away this evidence. They just pretend it doesn't exist.

I am not a creationist, maybe.
Genesis doesn't say that God made life on earth, it says
"and God commanded the seas to bring forth life... and birds that flew in the air."
People read the wrong things into the bible.

Excellent point. KJV says "And God said Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life", etc. Which is what seems to have happened, one way or another.

The point of contention between creationists and everyone else is how that took place, whether by operation of the principles of nature, as science and all sensible Christians maintain, or by God suddenly "poofing" things into existence, like a cheap magician.

You deserve 3 "funny" ratings for this, but I can click only once :D
It is already up to two within two minutes. I dare say that I may get that third one yet.

Edit: Told ya!

Oh no, it appears that Stone Cold Steve Austin is not a fan of creationist Steve Austin

Wah waah.
Yes well the last one certainly looks like a jerk. Reminds me a bit of this other jerk:

I imagine you will recognise him without too much difficulty............:D

If God created everything "like a cheap magician" He would have to continue to tinker
with His creation as the environment changes.
I believe the AIDS virus in particular is an aggressive evolutionary creature. Had it
been "made" once and for all it could never do the endless adaptive tricks it uses
to fool the human body.

I had no luck when I searched the surname. I only found articles on his mother and a beer with that name. Adding Conservapedia to the search did the trick.
Schlafly made a spectacular fool of himself in something called the "Lenski Affair", in which he disbelieved some research that demonstrated the evolution of bacteria taking place in the lab and demanded the evidence be made available, only to discover, after he had written several rude and peremptory letters demanding it, that the evidence was an actual population of bacteria, still living in the researcher's lab! The story is here and it makes highly amusing reading: Lenski affair - RationalWiki

Schlafly also thinks the theory of relativity is a liberal hoax, apparently on the grounds that it encourages moral relativism!

LOL, I love this thread. It is a perfect example of how creationists, when confronted with evidence for evolution, just dodge it and pretend it doesn't exist, and instead decide to talk about other stuff, like how to make English words mean something other than what they are defined to mean.

Wow! That was quite the article. I loved the reminder to wash one's hands. Lenski was able to rip Schalfly a new one and yet keep me laughing. A rare ability.

thank you

After reading three pages of nPeace desperately trying to avoid admitting he made a simple linguistic (or biological) error when implying that humans with different coloured skin constituted different species, I really start to wonder whether he remembers that pride is a sin...

Dude, it was a simple error. Just admit it and move on.
I really hope none of you are lawyers, or magistrates.
Sad when people stick out they know the truth of a matter even when they don't know.
Worst yet, imagine if you were all part of a jury. I would feel sorry for the poor guy who has to spend his life in prison, all because of people who think they are so brilliant. It's only a thought.

A proper judge would throw this case out, as well as all you out his sight. I would shake his hand for being the only reasonable person in the room... besides me. :)

By the way, I'm laughing at all the lawyers. Like I said, this thread has turned into a circus.
Perhaps you have nothing better to do.

If the OP has any worth, why not discuss that?
Do you think trying to discredit a person you hate, is going to earn you points?
The OP was already weak to begin with, so don't blame me. I only showed it to be useless. A cockroach would have run across it, and it would have toppled.

So what's it going to be - discuss the OP, or stand around complaining like someone just stole all your lottery tickets? :smirk:

Still no admission but he complains copiously in blaming the world for his error
