Have you read any decent self-help books?

Greetings one & all!

Was not sure where to post this so move it if you like ...

Hands up anyone who has read several self-help books.

There's a LOT of debate - or mass debate - about the value if any of "self help" - it has even been described as an industry that capitalises (or preys) on the vulnerable souls who feel they need to "fix" themselves so that they can be happier & more "successful".

But what is the difference between a "self help" book and a religious/spiritual text? Isn't the intended aim of religion to "help" people become better human-beings?

For an interesting perspective - don't let the surname put you off at all! -

All comments are welcome - including whether such books have helped you transform your life to any extent.

Thanks for listening!

Therapists do not and cannot give answers. Explore the true nature of the therapeutic relationship, and realize that the guru is no Buddha. He is just another human struggling. Understanding the shape of your own personal ills will lead you on your journey to recovery.

Conclusion of the book: There are no gurus with all the answers.

I recommend Thinking fast and Slow by Daniel Rahneman Its a book about how the mind works. With best practices. It will teach you more about yourself then any self help book I read.

But will it really make me fabulously wealthy financially & emotionally?

Seriously though - thanks for the recommendation - hope it helps whoever may be reading this thread.
