A- for AOC saying about trump "it's all about the con"

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I think that America was likely never a Democracy. Rather I think it has been an oligarchy that is sliding or has slidden into a Dictatorship? As far as I can see, the "Elected" officials in D.C. are there to cash in. There simply is no excuse whatsoever for Trump to have remained in office for so long.

It is likely that Mitch Mcconnell is the de facto Dictator in America. Trump is just the Organ Grinder Monkey.
All countries are oligarchies. It's just a matter of who's pulling the strings and benefiting.

You seem to be upset about my catching her lack of analysis.

:)

I guess we'll have to disagree bout her analysis. What I see is good analysis turned into soundbites that our anti-intellectual society can understand. I suspect that if you were to have a private, off the record conversation with AOC, you'd be far more impressed with her analysis, than what she expose publicly. Sadly, most of the people in our society are skeptical of complex answers, sigh...

You realize you just made a series of inaccurate strawman arguments right? You ought to read the GND, it's short.

I HAVE read it. In actuality, I agree with a lot of it.

It's what OAC claims about it and wants to do with it that bugs me.

Why didn't you post her "good analysis"?
Did she actually research how Trump's cronies
enjoyed a net benefit from his policies?

I'm not privy to it. But her summary seems completely consistent with all the evidence we have of oligarchs befouling most every aspect of our society.

So she has "good analysis", but you can't find it.
Not that you would do this.....but it appears that because you like
what she said, that she must have analysis to back it up.
Just like her prediction that the world will end in 10 years, eh.

To be fair, I have only circumstantial evidence that she does good research. And to be fair, I agree with most of what she says - again, given the waters in which she is forced to swim. And, as for the "world ending", well depending on your definition, she might well be correct. If in fact Greenland and Antarctica have melted past the point of no return in 10 years, then the resulting rise in sea level could easily displace A BILLION people from there homes and that could well be a society-ending event.

If indeed Trump's policies showed a benefit to cronies, this would be damning.
But if her claim were cromulent, I'd suspect that she'd release the evidence,
& that others would've found the same.
I'll wager your left one that she's just pulling a Trump, ie, shooting from the hip.
Let me get this straight...
You really believe that it's cromulent to say that the world will end in 10 years?
Oh, dear.

1 - oligarchs are cagey :)
2 - what's your definition of the "end of the world"? To me, if a billion people lose their homes "end of the world" captures the severity pretty well.

The world would still be here, even if many people died.
Its "end" would be more like the destruction of all life.

I suppose that anything AOC says can be rationalized
to be true or possible if one has enuf faith.

So we're just having a disagreement over semantics.

No.
You're agreeing with AOC that the world will end in 10 years
by constructing a scenario wherein some could histrionically
say that.
I'm disagreeing with what she actually said.

The End of the world is different to each of us. I felt that my Divorce was it. The Folk in the Bahamas perhaps feel that way now? I think the REAL end will be unmistakable.

I suppose if were we going to be all nit-pick-ily precise, we could say that even widespread thermonuclear war that wipes out all but a few primitive lifeforms is also NOT the end of the world.

To me, we're clearly embroiled in a semantics argument, why is that so hard to agree with?

Who are you arguing with? Not me.

Is that LDS talk saying that you don't like her?

No. That's Diana saying I don't like her.

You don't want the "LDS" talk. I happen to be a southern Idaho LDS. Now that might not mean anything to you, but southern Idaho Mormons tend to be sheepherders, farmers, ranchers and railroaders. We are NOT, as a rule, mealy mouthed.

Perhaps you should look up some stories about one of our apostles, J.Golden Kimball, who was born about thirty miles from where I was. Now HE spoke like a typical Southern Idaho Mormon.

If I had followed his example, my opinion of OAC would have been asterisked out.

the trouble is, I have been infected by Utah and California Mormons, who are far more polite. Therefore 'idiot' is about as far as I will go.
