Conservative Democrats vs Liberal Republicans?

Are there any liberal or even moderate Republicans? Not that I can see. The right has gone full bore extreme right with attacks that anyone not on the extreme is a RINO and is to be primaried.

The left is still fighting that battle.

WWMRD?
The reality seems to be that the loudest and most extreme voices get heard but they actually make up the minority on both sides of the aisle. The majority on both sides seem to agree on quite a bit but the D & R thing tends to get in the way sometimes.

Exactly so! The best advice, in my opinion, is to ignore the extremes on either side, and listen carefully to what the mainstream of both parties are talking about. You'll find, often enough, that they're not really all that far apart. In an age before social media allowed us to form "electronic gangs," it was even possible to cobble together bipartisan bills that became, for the most part, pretty good law.

How do these two differ?

A conservative Democrat is someone whose main idea's align with the democratic party but has some conservative notions for example maybe fiscal responsibility of Government or Church state separation. A liberal Republican would be somebody whose main idea's align with the Republicans but has some liberal idea's for example Prochoice or Wanting more gun regulation.

On a scaled chart both would come in close to moderate but definitely on their parties side of moderate.

You have it backwards unfortunately.

The right already disavowed and disowned its extremist.

Though you are correct the left is still fighting the battle within itself between the moderates and the extremist.

From where I sit, it's the other way around.

Nobody has been blocked from knitting sites or other places for being too LIBERAL, after all.

You don't believe that the right has attacked and primaried people for being RINOs? Wow.

Honestly I kind of hope both parties Fall Into Obscurity like the Federalist and Whig parties of days old, and redefine what it actually means to live in a free country as a free people.

"Has attacked"... past tense

Yes

Just as I said, the right has already had this battle and its over with and the loonies are gone for the most part.

The loonies are in charge of the asylum on the left atm.

The loonies as in the moderate RINOs, the neo-Nazis and the alt-right types?

Alt-right and all those loons have been disavowed, disowned, and sent on their way. Richard Spencer is voting Democrat in 2020 your welcome.

Interesting. I take an opposite conclusion from things like that.

When something generally apolitical like a knitting discussion board clamps down on extremism but only ends up booting right-wing extremists, this suggests to me that there are significantly more right-wing extremists than there are left-wing extremists.

The US has a very strong skew to the right, politically. Anywhere else in the world, a position like "let's not have concentration camps" would have wide political support; the only people opposing it would be the extreme right fringe. In the US, this view is seen as somewhat left of centre. It's bizarre.

I would love to see a Republican who is strongly pro-life, strongly against gay marriage, and strongly for saving the planet from Global warming. I wish Carlos Curbelo had been elected.

The problem with that, of course, is that anyone with enough of a social conscience to take action on climate change is unlikely to be anti-choice, anti-same-sex marriage, or Republican.

I know, that's why Carlos Curbelo was unique. He was at least a foot in the door.
