This video is funny, yet useful in our "I've been offended" society. Let em have it, Bill! (warning; some bad language)

My favorite part about watching Bill Maher is how mad he gets when his audience doesn't laugh at his jokes.

OK, the first half was funny....and I disagreed with him utterly.

But when he started in on political correctness, snowflakes and which group went from 'yes we can' to 'oh, no, you didn't!" I have to admit; right on, Bill!

He made a good point. Conservatives often try to paint liberals as the SJW PC police, but even your average liberal finds them to be obnoxious.

SJWs: Please don't dress up as racist colonial tropes for Halloween.

Maher: Woah, you're saying i'm not allowed to dress up as *insert racial slur*, you're such a snowflake.
Nothing more sensitive than an I'm-anti-pc-sjw-those-dang-millenials! being told to have a modicum of decency and respect for other cultures.

Seldom those times are when depicting charachitures created by an oppressive expansionist empire to dehumanize a group of people. Doesnt really strike as sincere or flattering.

It's not black and white; I wouldn't place a kid dressing as a ninja on the same level as black face. Intent and context are important.

I wouldn't either, and nor, I think, do most people who have serious commentary to give about cultural appropriation and when it becomes deleterious. I should make a thread about my thoughts on it sometime.

This reminds me of when Speedy Gonzales was censored for being offensive toward mexicans. Do you know who wasn't offended and campaigned for his return? Actual mexicans.
Unless it's something blatantly hateful/hurtful, it seems like being offended on other people's behalf is presumpuous and patronizing.

I could do a thread about this too. Actually would you mind terribly if I moved this to a new thread and clear this one of debate?

We're gonna have to disagree here. What's the problem if kids think that native american garb from 150 years ago is cool? What's the problem if they think ninjas are cool.

We have to make a distinction between these sorts of things and the wearing of blackface.

It would be nice if said 'average liberal' would actually SAY so. Unfortunately, we don't get that from the media.

When I was a little kid I hated non-scary costumes and thought those who wore them were buttfaces because Halloween is suppose to be scary, gosh darn it!

Say to who, when, and in what situation? And how does "the media" represent random, regular citizens?
Both "sides" can pummel and flog generalizations, stereotypes, and straw men all day long and it will never accomplish anything.
