So that is your understanding of it. But as an American Jew, the group being characterized as responding to the comment in a particular way (either as anti-semitic or pandering, depending om the media outlet), and having discussed it with other American Jews, I don't think my perspective should be marginalized or ignored.

I agree as I said YOUR perspective as is mine as is those that viewed what Trump said.

The trope is from an era which Jews were considered a race
Jews are still not a race.
Someone here claims that Australian is a race.
Many claim that Mexican, Spanish ancestry, & Muslim are races.
If so, then criticizing me is racist because I'm a Libertarian.

This calls forth a much more complex issue. The term "race" stems from a scientific race construct so it is based in physical traits, lineage and expressed genetics. But the term has developed to include ethnicity and, eventually, national origin (all terms which beg definition and can't be cleanly distinguished). Now the word is used ignoring the original "race" designation sort of as a synonym for otherism and discrimination. Judaism is not a race in the classic (scientific) sense, though it was a while ago, but it has aspects of racial identity which overlap with other terms and religion is a protected class when one discussed bigotry and prejudice. So it is hard to use (or not use) the term "racism" in this context. The first step, albeit a boring one, is coming up with shared definitions so people aren't arguing past each other.

I am talking about ideas about race around WW2 and before typically by politicians of that era. Perhaps I should have said "race" instead.

Yes? So? I do not think you understand the point I am making. I am not saying Jews are a race. I am pointing out a lot of tropes developed during an era in which many people treated Jews as a race rightly or wrongly. Ideas like the "Jewish nose".

Ohmar and Tlaib are the far left. Extremist they represent identity politics and socialism
I can assure you, they don't live anywhere in my block on the left, not even the same neighborhood. Theyre only far left and extreme if you forget liberals and dems arent very far from the center.

They are further left than you.

You are a moderate right leaning conservative compared to them.

Religion aside, the question whether Jews are a race or ethnic group is an interesting regardless of what the correct designation is. Even though there are many relatively pure racial groups in the world, the use of the word race has many problems, because the genetics of the population of many peoples of the world identified as a race, is not correct, because of racial mixing in recent history. It is more accurate to consider Jews an ethnic identity, with a strong religious and even stronger cultural heritage and many Jews have genetic lineages going back to the tribes of ancient Palestine region.

Trump's narrow view of the world makes strong negative artificial distinctions of race, which is common in the conservative world.

Irreverent as my point was about a specific era and tropes not an endorsement of those points as correct.

You have zero evidence Trump is using the term as if about race instead of simple GOP and Orthodox politics. The same thing happens with Christians that vote left. Called not true Christians, ergo ignorant and traitors. You are just posting rhetoric not evidence.

Judaism has "racial" (that is, genetic) aspects to its identification, but a person can convert in (no matter his geographical or other history) and then Judaism passes genetically from the convert (woman, according to Orthodox Jewry). I feel that the term race is construed too broadly in some cases, and too narrowly in others, and the things which separate people are sometimes too pronounced and other times, ignored when they should be considered.

A very emotional rant, neglecting the history of Trump's statements in the past, and the history.racism in the USA in the strongly conservative South, and other areas of the country and the dramatic rise of violent extreme racism among the white conservative population of the USA.

Actually not much different from what I posted.

A very emotional rant.

You presented no evidence. Try again son. Less deflection next time.

The emotion was laughter as your points are those of a parrot repeating what you heard and easily knocked down. After all you have no evidence not did provide any when given the chance. Try again.

It wasn't a rant. I pointed out you asserted a claim with no evidence. Less deflection next time son.

neglecting the history of Trump's statements in the past,

Such as what? Anything about Jews?

and the history.racism in the USA in the strongly conservative South,

Guilt by association fallacy. Trump isn't from the South...

and other areas of the country and the dramatic rise of violent extreme racism among the white conservative population of the USA.

So still no evidence regarding if Trump thinks Jews are a race.

Try again son.

Amusing.
