COPENHAGEN, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Lars Lokke Rasmussen, former Prime Minister of Denmark until June 2019 has stepped into U.S. President Donald Trump's row with Denmark.

In a tweet Wednesday night, Trump continued his attacks on Denmark with criticism of the financial side of the Scandinavian country's contribution to NATO.

"For the record, Denmark is only at 1.35% of GDP for NATO spending. They are a wealthy country and should be at 2%. We protect Europe and yet, only 8 of the 28 NATO countries are at the 2% mark. The United States is at a much, much higher level than that...." tweeted the American president.

U.S. President Donald Trump criticizes Denmark for being short on NATO spending in a tweet on Wednesday.

In response, Rasmussen tweeted back: "And - as I told you at the NATO Summit in Bruxelles last year - we have had (proportionally) exactly the same numbers of casualties in Afghanistan as the US. We always stand firm and ready - so we will not accept that our defense willingness is only about percentages."

Donald Trump said Tuesday a scheduled meeting with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has been postponed after she stonewalled his unofficial bid to purchase Greenland.

In a stern response, Frederiksen called the idea "absurd," triggering a backlash from Trump.

That is most excellent :D

Likely their reasoning is similar to Israeli reasoning concerning Tlaib.

Who wants some American government big shot coming to their country and saying things they dislike?

From what I have seen, a lot of Americans have supported Denmark and apologized for Trumps behavior, which is cool. Also Danes in general really like the US, just not Trump :)

I do for one. If tRump is making a nuisance of himself over there be is not being a nuisance here.

Edit: My apologies to Greenland.

At this point I want to know what is the price of a 2 million and 166 thousand square kilometers island.
What is it worth?

Word has it that Obama will be there at that time.

Trump, more reasonably than one would expect from him, probably does not want to invite comparisons.

One of my cousins, who is an independent politically (he neither voted for Trump or Hillary), travels all over the world because of his setting up and trouble-shooting oil refineries, and he says the overwhelming number of people in almost all the countries literally hate Trump and what he's doing, with largely the exceptions of Russia and Israel (he's done work in Russia but not Israel). He won't talk any politics overseas, including when in r & r, because of the fear of retaliation by someone with a political ax to grind on either side.

Are you under their's? When Democrats are mentioned the 'Squad' usually comes to mind first.
Not to me.
When somebody brings up The Squad, I still don't think of Democrats. I think of some newbie chicks trying to make a name for themselves.

It's not like they invented the concept.
I remember Trump doing it. "I'll build a Wall from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean, and Mexico will pay for it!"
"I'll repeal the ACA and replace it with something great!"
"I'll pull out of NATO, the Paris Accords, and peace with Iran!"
"Lock her up! Lock her up!"

Etc.
Etc.
