Thou shalt not.........

A couple of commandments that are missing from the list are:-

Thou shalt not have sex with children.

Thou shalt not rape or sexually abuse anyone. Sex should be between consenting adults only.

If those had been added maybe paedophilia, which is particularly prevalent among Catholic priests, although other denominations have perverts too, might be a rarity?

Good Call. Anyway... Sex is supposed to be for 'the holy marriage bed'. How do Catholics end up with altar boys, castration choirs, castratos, I mean they are just making this stuff up. You ever watch Downton Abbey, and the Duke of Downton is SO reserved and a moral force in the community and employer and all this, They had the first scene of Davinci's Demons with the same actor, he's a Naked Catholic , with a bunch of homosexual boys, and he ends up jumping off his high tower naked in a few seconds, just so short and hilarious, his bit part was hilarious.

I think a more important 11th Commandment would be
Thou Shalt Not Despoil the Earth.

But in the primitive world, thousands of years ago, that wasn't an issue. So their primitive God didn't care either.

Also add, ...

Thou shalt not keep other humans as slaves.
Thou shalt look after the planet, and all life on it

I get where you’re coming from, but there is some cultural bias in that view.

Go back a few centuries in Japan (possibly more recently, I am not certain) and children were part of normal adult sexual behaviour. A child was often present in the room while adults were having sex. It was part of their education. Because there was no trauma of shame, there was no psychological damage done.

I remember stirrings of eroticism as a child. Had it been a cultural norm, I would probably have benefited from some real education. Unfortunately the cultural norm was sexual repression, neurosis and guilt. Western society in other words.

So I would say that sexual coercion of anyone is a problem, having unwanted children is a problem, and engaging children in anything which will generate shame, anxiety and fear is totally unacceptable. In our society, that means sex with children is severe psychological abuse.

My point is that sexual morality is not an absolute, it is the code for a particular society.

All those things are considered serious sins in the Catholic Church already.

I think the commandment that would have made a difference is "thou shalt not protect a predator."

"Thou shalt not poke along in the passing lane..."" works for me.

Such a thing is an abomination. Thou shalt take the offender beyond the exit ramp, out of the presence of the commuters of thy community and smite and afflict him (or her in this age of equalities).

And what does "covet" mean? It means

cov·et
/ˈkəvət/

Learn to pronounce

verb
verb: covet; 3rd person present: covets; past tense: coveted; past participle: coveted; gerund or present participle: coveting
yearn to possess or have (something).
So wanting a lawn sprinkler like the guy next door has is a sin,* the penalty for which is death!** Hmm, sounds a bit harsh to me. How about you?

*Every single person will be judged by the mighty moral code of God's Ten Commandments. To break just one is to be guilty of sin.

Bible says:

Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not give false testimony," "You shall not covet," [TR adds "You shall not give false testimony,"] and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Love doesn't harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.
Romans 13:8-10

That covers also those what you said. It is enough to say “love your neighbor as yourself”. People with right understanding, get it, people who don’t get it, will not get it anyway.

Might have to call you on this one. To want a sprinkler like the neighbors is not necessarily coveting. However, to want the neighbor's sprinkler might fit the bill. We are talking about a sprinkler and not a euphemism concerning something else...right?

I find Numbers 14:32-33; 32:13 lets us know a reason why those un-faithful Jews were wondering in the wilderness for 40 years.
It was because of their fornication.
Sex with children would also be fornication.
A rapist can also fall into the category of fornication.
The person being raped was to ' SCREAM ' for help - Deuteronomy 22:24,27
Rape was a capital offence under the Constitution of the Mosaic Law.
So, it is the ignoring of Scripture among Catholics, etc. - 1 Timothy 4:3 - that is to blame.

Besides the Ten commandments I find there was already an 11th, 12th, 13th etc. up to 600 plus.
Rather, than the 11th, look at Genesis 1:28 that God purposed mankind to replenish the Earth........
Adam and Eve's children (includes us) were to expand the paradisical Garden of Eden earthwide.
So, yes, God does care, it is humans ignoring the Golden Rule who do Not care.

Then how about if I really want it; to yearn to have a sprinkler like my neighbor's? Then it certainly fits the definition:

"yearn to possess or have (something)."

However, to want the neighbor's sprinkler might fit the bill. We are talking about a sprinkler and not a euphemism concerning something else...right?
But there's no sense of the word that expresses a particular, singular object; my neighbor's "X," instead of "like my neighbor's X."

But even if it did mean wanting the particular sprinkler belonging to my neighbor don't you think it's a bit harsh to consider it a sin worthy of death?

Doesn't it does make you wonder that a religion so obsessed with sex and abstinence wouldn't include such a thing?

I do think the age of consent in those days were far far lower that a girl was henceforth considered a woman once she got breasts.

From what I gathered in history it seems a lot more normalized then than it is now. Probably because of advances in science and technology for which we determine a proper age of consent.

Still, to yearn to have something LIKE your neighbor's is a far cry from yearning to have your neighbor's stuff. The verse quoted is explicit in saying not to covet your neighbor's stuff; it doesn't say you can't have an ox, or sprinkler, or wife like your neighbor's. Just a minor point to prevent one from experiencing eternal damnation.
