Trumps union workers were forced to attend speech

Being paid to attend isn't quite the same as being forced.

But it does give one pause. People are being paid to attend a political rally. Is it legal to pay people to attend a rally and call it wages? Can the employers really write that as a business deduction? Isn't the money paid a political donation to Trump?

Not that the Trump administration is likely to ask questions like that. Could the attendees hold up a "Go Tulsi Gabbard!" sign?

The steel workers sitting behind Trump at his speech the ones he bragged on basically were not real. He gave them a choice of not getting paid and they couldn't even eat lunch if they would go and be good and support him he would make sure they would get paid and get to eat.

Workers at Trump speech told they had to use time off or receive no pay if they didn’t attend

That's union workers for ya, worthless.

They want to get paid to not attend a conference and not have to work either.

The plant was shut down for the entire day. The workers were offered to be paid to hang out and attend Trumps speech, they didn't have to do anything else. Or they could have the day off and go home (and receive no pay for that day because OT is not mandatory or a right, so yeah, you don't get paid for doing zilch).

From the link:
Some of the workers were also told not to protest the president. Smith said the memo given to employees was different than the one released by the company and did not include language about protesting.
So what does this mean?
Were the employees paid to support a particular political message? Why didn't the article mention the name of the company paying people to attend a Trump rally?
