It just keeps getting worse. One of the reasons I chose a Chromebook laptop as an ancillary machine is due to how terrible Windows is.

I have both linux and Android apps on mine.Not to mention, most Chromebooks can be made to run Linux.
Exactly. It's not difficult to keep your machine safe by using the supplied protection software (Windows Defender, in this case), not messing with system settings too much and keeping things updated.No big deal. Windows updated overnight on it's own. Problem solved. There is no system that can't be hacked. Just those that are either more or less difficult to hack. And of course, the most popular system will always be the one which will receive the most attention from hackers.
Chromebooks do run a flavour of linux by default. Just not a good one
