Amazing, protestors in Hong Kong hold the U.S. flag while singing the U.S. national anthem as the take a stand against communism and embrace freedom! This isn't being covered by the mainstream media.

Hong Kong protesters wave American flag, sing national anthem
And Donald J Trump took a courageous stand, letting the Communists know that he and the USA stood behind the valiant protesters! Because he believes in Truth, Justice, and the American Way.

Right? He did, didn't he?

Except that I've seen it on multiple occasions, even on CNN (roughly the liberal equiviant of Fox News). It's just too bad the U.S. President prefers to kiss the *** of dictators rather than promote our nation's values.

I really hate to defend Trump, but if it takes a bit of *** kissing to prevent a nuclear war, I'm all for it.

Uh huh, and if he's not brown nosing them he is a warmonger. At what point will you realize you're being irrational?

If Beijing starts shooting these people. I think it would be time to start giving Hong Kong weapons.

You're being irrational by claiming I've that taken positions or made proclamations that I never did. And it's not an either/or situation, as if kissing *** or picking fights were the only options. But you'll bend over backwards to defend your godking.

When China is doing economically well or does anything America likes:
Conservatives: Thank god China got rid of Communism

When China does something bad:
Conservatives: This is communism's fault
Conservatives are just grumpy because checks and balances are preventing them from doing the same.

True. They say that China is capitalist now or that they're communist "in name only."

But they seem to be taking a more nationalistic bent these days.

Nope. You know who is and who tweeted this?

The people of Hong Kong are making clear that they will not tolerate repression, and their movement affirms: The power is with the people. They deserve our support and the support of the world.

It'd being covered in the UK, every hour.

But the Thread Title and OP is daft, because Hong Kong is owned by China now and will be fully merged in to China within a decade or two.

This is one struggle that Communism (The Capitalist Chinese kind) will win.

China isn't communist in any meaningful sense.

Its economy is nationalistic state capitalism. They are protesting extradition and reductions in the freedoms that were supposedly guaranteed as part of the deal to hand HK back to China.

I've often wondered what would have happened if, instead of the British giving Hong Kong back to China, they gave it to Taiwan instead? Taiwan was initially considered the true government of China. Nixon reversed that policy and recognized the Mainland Chinese government instead of Taiwan.

It was a major policy shift, and many saw it as a betrayal. Although, it was the key maneuver which put enormous pressure on the USSR - so much so that it would eventually lead to the end of the Cold War. (Many credit Reagan with winning the Cold War, but I think the lion's share of credit should go to Nixon.)
