Unclean Spirits

Not your average Mormon
My husband and I had a very strange and frightening experience back in about 1974 when we were both in college. We were on a six-week trip through Europe. Our travel was all by train. One day, we were on a train bound for Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein castles in Bavaria when a young girl about our age and her just-graduated-from-high-school brother got on the train and sat down in the seats facing ours. When we heard them speaking English, we started to talk to them. They were really nice, really friendly. We spent the whole train trip talking to them and the four of us stuck pretty close together on the tour of the castles. When we got back on the train, the young woman asked where we were staying, and we told her. She and her brother hadn't found a place to stay for the night, so we suggested they check out our hotel.

It was a little family-owned hotel. They were able to get a room there. After dinner, the four of us met in the little lobby (it was actually more like a parlor of a little old-fashioned house) where we sat down to visit some more. We'd been talking for quite a while when I suddenly felt an extremely dark presence in the room. I can't even remember what we were talking about, but there didn't seem to be any reason for the horrible feeling I was experiencing. I remember feeling really scared, but also confused as to what was happening. I just kind of sat there wondering what to do when my husband quickly brought the conversation to a close, saying something like, "Well, we've got an early train to catch tomorrow. I think we'd better be turning in for the night." We told them goodnight and went up to our room. As soon as we had shut the door of our room, my husband said to me, "I'm really sorry. You were probably really enjoying yourself, but I had the most overwhelming feeling that something really evil was there in the room with us. I don't know what it could have been, but I just had to get out of there." Needless to say, I was absolutely speechless. The feeling had left us when we left the presence of that young woman and her brother, and we never saw them again, but we'd both felt it and it had absolutely terrified both of us.

I've been dealing with this for quite some time but didn't actually decide it was a spirit until I experienced the opposite (holy ghost). Like I said, there is a testimony of Christ that goes parallels to all of this. I can honestly say I've received a message from God on many occasions. Once God/Jesus is truly in your heart things become very clear, however, I do not hear people talk about this stuff much, unless they are trying to conjure the dead. There was a time in which I thought that I needed people to pray for me, needed a priest to cleanse the place, etc. I believe God will have his way so I am not worried, just tired and anxious. After all, I've been here since 2002. I've learned a lot and I know I'm almost at the end of this. I feel it. Still, I'm curious to know what others might know. But maybe curiosity does kill the cat :)

In Islam we call those spirits "djinn". They can be good or bad and they may live among us.
We believe for exemple that the devil is a djinn.
And of course they can live in your house.
I know that in the Gospel there's some verses about Jesus healing some people from those spirits.
What people call spirits, demons, ghosts : it's just djinns for us

Thank you for telling me that.

I'll call it whatever matches the character. Its character is distinct. I know of the djinn. It matches that as well :)

Have you considered having an expert with psychic insight and experiences with these type of things to come to your house to receive impressions and give advice?

Oh yes! Cannot afford one though. Besides, its not like we are being physically attacked. Most assume it is in our imagination, to include my husband.

Well, if money is a problem then have you done much looking on the internet and your local library for suggestions on do-it-yourself cleansing methods?

I haven't put a lot of time or effort into it, no. I just go around shouting at the spooky feelings, "in Jesus's name, get out", or something of that effect. Guess I could look into it a bit more.

Despite my tongue-in-cheek post in the other thread about demons, I do believe there are dark, unhappy, even downright nasty and evil spirits, lost (literally) souls, etc.

One night I was in my recliner at home, watching tv. Suddenly I felt a coldness and dread-like feeling. I actually got creeped out. I got up and got a picture of Lord Narasimha (Vishnu's lion avatar, a fierce protector) and put it on the table next to my recliner. Almost immediately the creepiness, chill and dread disappeared.

Another time when I was at home, the house just felt "off". In my mind the house is "sick". Everything about it is wrong. Someone told me it may be bad vastu. Vastu is an ancient Indian architectural science. The building of the house may have violated, or not paid attention to something in vastu, even though the builders would probably know nothing of vastu. As the saying goes "ignorance of the law is no excuse".

At any rate, being somewhat superstitious (it's my Sicilian heritage :D), I lit incense and sage, walked around the house with it, ringing a hand bell, and bellowing "I don't know who or what the **** you are, but you better get the **** out of here before I call on Mother Kali to kick your *** into the next dimension". [sorry for the language, but I do have a potty mouth]

Well what can I say, whatever it was hauled *** out of the house and never came back. No one messes with Kalimaa's kids.
I appreciate you sharing this, because I have often
wondered how successful people are in banishing evil
(or just cranky :D) spirits by involving deities outside
of Christianity.

I always hear stories of people calling on Jesus and/or
utilizing Christo-centric methods of fighting off
demons, but have wondered if calling on the name of
Lord Krishna (my own preferred god-concept) or the
like would be equally effective.

I mean, I suppose that if they're all just different
names for the same God, then yes, any of them would
work; God would know when we're talking to Him. :)

There's a verse in the Rig Veda that translates as "One Truth the sages call by many names" ekaṃ sad viprā bahudhā vadanti. Some people argue that applies only to the deities known to Hinduism; others say it applies to all deities because Brahman is everything, and everything is Brahman: sarvam khalvidam brahma, "all this verily is Brahman".

Tl;dr You're probably right.

My other two children are mentally ill and self medicate with meth. I'd say they are effected by something.

Did your children try to see a specialist ? A psychologist or something ?
Or do they think it's something else ? Can you precise what they feel if possible ?

Does anyone know anything about unholy spirits or demons?
No, nobody does. Some people think they do, based on their own beliefs, preferences and biases and often fed by those of others before them. Some people also claim to know for various reasons. There is nothing definitive anyone can say about such ideas, though there are some definitive things that can be said about some of the events and experiences which are often interpreted as having this kind of cause.

My children are adults, except for the last who is thirteen. They have all come to me separately; they have not spoken to each other because they were embarrassed or ashamed. Each has described the same or very similar things. I take them seriously not only because they do not know of each others experiences but also because I have my own experiences that can support or validate theirs.
The common problem with this kind of thing is while you may have all had separate experiences, you have subsequently discussed and combined them. Human memory is extremely unreliable and we vastly underestimate the amount of influence other people’s statements, especially people we’re close to, can have on the ultimate images in our minds.

We all feel a dark heaviness while in the house yet if you leave the house that heaviness does not stay with you.
Generically defined feelings don’t really support any conclusion. It’s just as possible that you’re uncomfortable in the house because of what you belief is happening there as anything in the house directly causing negative feelings. This kind of thing can also build up as a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy. Mental illness and drug use as you’ve referred to can only serve to complicate matters.

I know it sounds nuts, which is why it took so long for any of us to even speak to each other but, it is very real.
Your perceptions and experiences are very real and I wouldn’t call them “nuts”. Your desperation to seek an explanation (and therefore possible solution) is entirely understandable but that doesn’t make the direction you’ve chose rational and I fear such a focus risks doing more harm than good to you and your family.

Unfortunately, I can’t really offer you anything other than that general advice, I can only hope that you do find a safe and effective way to deal with your situations.

Some have gone to counseling and others not. As children, the docs say there is nothing wrong. My two eldest daughters are the only one with lasting effects and they are devastating effects. I poked around this business for so long that I've gone from not believing in spirits to believing in them; from thinking there is dysfunction in the way my husband and I were socialized and socialize our children to thinking there could be more to it. They only consistent feelings my children have is fear and anger whenever in the house. Outside the house we all feel better.
