‘Norwegian police said Sunday that a shooting at a mosque near Oslo is being treated as an "attempted act of terror" and that the suspected gunman harbours far-right, anti-immigrant views.

The suspect entered the mosque in the affluent Oslo suburb of Baerum on Saturday armed with multiple weapons and opened fire before being overpowered by a 65-year-old man who suffered minor injuries.

Hours after the attack, the body of a young woman was found in a home in Baerum and police on Sunday confirmed that it was the suspect's 17-year-old stepsister. Investigators launched a murder investigation into the death.’

I read about this in the newspaper this weekend, And as a Norwegian Citizen, it is heartbreaking to know It is an ethnic Norwegian man who created this terror. We should work to be friends with the Muslim community in our country.

Norway should bring back the death penalty and life in prison.
Why? Then we would not be any better than the killer we experienced this weekend.
The death penalty does not prevent others from doing wrongdoings.
Only education about religion and culture can help solve this kind of things, and of course, teach people that racism is not the solution

I don't care about the deterrent argument since there will always be killers, but it should an option to remove the monsters among us like Brevik. He probably won't even be in jail for the rest of his life. Outrageous!

Brevik got 21 years with conservation, meaning that if doctors and psychiatrists see him as unfit to get free, he stays in a mental institution after he been in jail for 21 years. So according to Norwegian law, he got the hardest punishment he could.

I realize that. I just prefer the old days when he would've been executed already.

I agree with the life in prison part because if a mistake is made and new evidence comes to light later on you can release the person imprisoned. But death is irreversible so I wouldn’t go that far due to the fallibility of the justice system.

How come? If a man kills on the street he becomes a murderer, if an executions staff in a prison end the life of a criminal he just doing his job.

In my eyes, both are a murderer. Killing should not be done
I already said the deterrent argument is irrelevant to me since there will always be murderers. I support the death penalty for philosophical reasons. If you take an innocent life due to malice (or for fun, as with some killers), you have forfeited your right to life. It is an injustice to allow a murderer to continue to live while that was denied to their victim, especially since many of them are psychopaths and will never have remorse for their crimes. We also waste resources feeding and jailing them.

As for the idea that executioners are now murderers, that ignores that murder is killing deemed unlawful and all societies allow authorities the use of deadly force against criminals.

I agree to disagree with you on this.

I will never agree that killing another human being is the right thing to do, even if they have killed someone.
I'm not addressing what is right....just what is better or worse.
Executing a murderer is still better than what the murderer did,
ie, killing an innocent person.

No, to put them in jail is the best option, because if we kill them they will not learn. if they must sit in jail for 50-60 years they would understand that what they did was really wrong. And they knew they would not be free because of what they did.

I just wanted to add that I don't think even all murderers should be executed, just the psychopathic types who do it out of sadism or the terrorists. For example, I don't think the female serial killer Aileen Wuornos should have been executed. She was obviously mentally ill and had an extremely horrible life. She should've been placed in a mental institution and helped. I think what happened to her was an injustice, but I don't excuse what she did, either. But someone like Ted Bundy, who killed for fun and never took responsibility for his crimes? Fry 'em.
