Some of you may have heard of the term "dark night of the soul".

Makes an interesting Google search and here is one such site -

We tend to doubt everything we’ve known to be true. In worst (best) case scenarios we tend to fall into an existential crisis, or Dark Night of the Soul. But, if we are able to make it through this dark time, and shed that which has weighed us down, then we will open up once again, and even wider than before.

This can happen many times on our spiritual journey, and each time we tend to gain new levels of wisdom.

Also, a book written by Saint John of the Cross in the 16th century. As I recall, it was about how the silence and general lack of sensual/intellectual stimulation experienced by novice monks would drive them inward and into an internal confrontation with the "darkness" within themselves. And then ultimately, (if they survived it,) to the faint glimmer of light within that darkness, and thereby toward the goal of holding onto and developing that light throughout the rest of their monastic life.

Thanks for sharing - I had to use Google to look up Baruch Hashem.

Yes - it can seem hopeless & meaningless when you are in the darkness but it is well-worth it once you transform your negativity.
