How we got to Jesus being the Son of God?

Please don't stone me? This is an honest question.

It's been years since I decided that the Jesus that the churchy people from the denomination I was with was not real. Much of that was due to the lack of charity, and not following the words of Jesus in their reaction to offenders, and post 9/11.

In the NT Jesus is named as the Son of God several places. In Psalms there is "Kiss the Son, lest he be angry..."

The OT came to us through several levels of translation and interpretation. Is it reliable?

In Islam, he is seen as "The Best Prophet" but not as the Son of God because of the Islamic view of who Allah SWT is. Muslims see Allah SWT (God) as a spirit without a body. To be the best and only God, he can not procreate.

For one thing, Jesus himself in John 3 when talking to Nicodemus jumped there

Jesus began calling himself 'Son of Man' and described as being like the bronze serpent in the wilderness who could save those facing a crisis of death.

Then in the same though said '... for God so loved the world He gave His only Son...' and so Jesus jumps in the same thought from being 'some of man' to also 'Son of God'


He does similar at His trial when he says he is 'Son of Man' and 'Son of God' and 'the Christ'

For another thing, there is a rather large 'Son of God' genre in the Old Testament. The kings of Israel in Psalms point to the one who God will say in Psalm 2 'You are my Son today I have begotten you'

The Old Testament points to the coming one 'the Son of God'

It's part of a promise given to David that he will always have a son to sit on his throne and
that son is the Son, Jesus.

Orthodox Christianity has always taught the divinity of Christ. It was not a doctrine that developed at Nicaea as so many think. Nicaea simply affirmed what was taught by the Apostles in the face of those pushing novel ideas. The real question should be how did we get people (within the Church) suddenly denying the divinity that had never been previously denied.

Muslims see Allah SWT (God) as a spirit without a body.

So do Christians. God in the Second Person took on a human body at the incarnation. Nevertheless, God in His unchangeable nature remains an incorporeal spirit. Only the person of the Son became man. God in His essence did not.

To be the best and only God, he can not procreate.

Christianity does not claim that God procreated. All three persons are one eternal God. The Son and the Holy Spirit have always existed along with the Father. Neither the Son or the Holy Spirit were created by the Father. All three have always existed.

Can't say. I think it was Isa PBUH. One source says that Muslims are to read the Injil. We can have different opinions on this.

According to my understanding IsaandIslam.com is a Christian website. That being said I agree that there are a diversity of opinions in Islam.
