To what extent are Islamic terrorists inspired by Muhammad and the Quran?

In this modern age we’re completely unused to the very extended families and massive households with large numbers of slaves, hired hands, armed retainers.

A careful reading of Scripture makes clear Abraham’s was, so we tend to read our own very nuclear families onto the story without even thinking about it. (Must be that Holy Spirit reading for us)

Abraham was a Bedouin warlord. Bedouin were always fierce warriors. Imagine the size of his clan .. If he had trained 318 fighters, how many women, children, servants and old people did he have?

We are. However you didn't look at the specific point being made in the comment chain. So your response was not addressing what those comments were about which is about hadith authenticity. Hadith being problematic as some of the horrible views of ISIS can be found to be grounded in those hadith. However I would add that a charismatic figures can use those negative views to convince people that violence is a necessity. Toss in redemption concepts as some ISIS members from the West had criminal records. Ergo the figure is using guilt then offering their view of redemption as bait. "Fight for God! Gain entrance to Paradise/Heaven" propaganda. (Not unique to Islam)

I couldn’t agree anymore. Sorry for the misunderstanding. In Islam only the Quran is the Word of God. Hadiths in the Quran are denounced but are translated into English as ‘stories’ but in the Arabic as hadeeth. There were many fabricated hadiths by Muhammad’s enemies to try and depict Him as a monster and turn people against Him such as beheadingss and such. Actually Muhammad never Himself ever killed anyone.

But those Muslims who are ignorant and follow charismatic leaders instead of the Quran become brainwashed by them and easily turned into terrorists.

The only Hadith that can be said to have any truth in them are those which fully agree with what the Quran has said.

The whole hadith system is flawed in my view. Most of it is based on "Chinese whispers" and assertion of trust and reliability of the person cited. A lot of religious leaders cling to those sources to the point of being doctrine and dogma.

I see the Bounty in Hadith, is that they can give spiritual insight, providing they are in tune with the Quran.

There are many wonderful Hadith. I note Baha'u'llah quotes from Quran often and has quoted many Hadith.

No Hadith based in Truth would support unlawful killing, nor compulsion of Faith.

That isn't a great standard as it does not indicted a hadith is true merely what you think is right and are comfortable with.

I see all good is from Allah - That is a standard to start with.

Verse (4:79) "What comes to you of good is from Allah , but what comes to you of evil, [O man], is from yourself. And We have sent you, [O Muhammad], to the people as a messenger, and sufficient is Allah as Witness."
