Fear of homosexuality

Of course the scriptures say no such thing, but they do say something nasty awaits people who willfully twist and distort scripture. But hey, whatever gets you through the self loathing, I guess.

Go tell that nonsense to your pet carp.

John 3:36 and Revelation 21:8, etc., bust your chops all day long.

You bill yourself as a smart person; you can’t figure out after all the replies on all the threads what it is that has turned people off Christianity? Head in the sand much?

Let me spell it out for you. What turns people off — and what angers me as a member of the clergy in a mainstream, Protestant denomination, is that the loudest and most raucous voice in Xy is that of the conservative, fundamentalist, Evangelical, who presents a narrow, rather than wide view, who idolizes the Bible, yet mistreats it by taking it literalistically, who insists that everyone follow all its perceived rules to the letter while applying a double standard to himself, who insists that his brand of belief is THE Truth (because “Jesus said so” — even though he didn’t), who blithely and repeatedly throws the vulnerable under the bus in favor of some twisted view of a couple of bible passages, all the while trumpeting, “Love the ‘sinner,’ hate the ‘sin.’).

The bigoted, intractable, morally-reprehensible, hypocritical hubris, hiding behind a cloak of faux-piety, gives such a person license to present Xy to others as something it patently is not. Such people offer nothing more than snake oil nostrums, dressed up as “the Faith.”

Did you not know that the Gospel itself divides people, as does Jesus? “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household.” — Matthew 10:34-36

'Some years ago, an old English preacher by the name of Smith Wigglesworth remarked, “If you leave people as you found them, God is not speaking through you. If you are not making people either mad or glad, there is something wrong with your ministry. If there’s not a (spiritual) war going on, you’re not doing your job.”'

'Another commentator, a gentleman by the name of Arthur Wallis, speaking on the apostolic style of preaching that we see in the Book of Acts, said, “Such preaching makes indifference to the word of God impossible – it sets the hearers into one of two camps. It’s calculated to either produce a revival or a riot.”'

'As Carl Henry so eloquently noted, “America has turned its back on God. It mocks God. Instead it worships a twentieth century Baal, incarnated in sensuality, materialism, and immorality of every kind.”'

'Over one hundred years ago, Catherine Booth remarked, “It is a bad sign for the Christianity of this day when it provokes so little opposition from the world. When the Church and the world can jog along together side by side comfortably, you may be sure there is something wrong.”'

Jesus was a teacher who taught deep personal reflection, radical welcome, inclusion of the worst sinners, and who railed against the kind of self-righteous power structures that the Fundigelical entrenches himself in. Jesus died for the sake of humanity, yet this person won’t allow others to partake of Jesus’ love and acceptance. Then he wonders why people turn away from Xy. It’s insidious, it misrepresents the religion, and it’s evil.

"wont allow others to partake of Jesus love and acceptance"? ABSOLUTE NONSENSE. Rather, hoping they do.

"Why was John the Baptist beheaded? Was he a reed swayed by the breeze of political correctness? Was John one of those guys who wanted everyone to be his buddy? Was he someone who sought after his own well-being and personal indulgences? John the Baptist spoke out strongly against the corrupt religious leaders of his day. He went after King Herod and reminded him of his adultery. He called the Sadducees and Pharisees a “Brood of Vipers!” He wasn’t playing the world’s game and looking out for his own welfare and popularity. He wasn’t practicing “tolerance” and preaching a watered-down gospel that sends people to hell. He was preaching the word of God, trying to turn someone to repentance and salvation, and for that he was labeled a troublemaker and eventually put to death."

"Why was Paul beaten and persecuted? Why was James put to death with the sword? Why were the prophets and the apostles martyred? They didn’t go after these guys for preaching love and tolerance. They went after them because they exposed sin, corruption, and idolatry, and took a stand for what’s right in the eyes of God. They were God’s little troublemakers, and the world couldn’t handle it. The world stood convicted of its sin, and in order to justify its own worldliness and unrighteousness it chose instead to kill the messengers. Sound familiar?"

"And herein lies the crux of this message: Exposing sin and confronting apathy and unrighteousness are critically essential to salvation. Without conviction there is no need for a savior. And if the world has no need for a savior, then Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection has absolutely no relevance or significance."

"Now for those in the church who say we shouldn’t “rock the boat,” I ask: “What kind of baptism and faith do we have that calls for almost no separation from the world, produces no personal sacrifice, and breeds practically no animosity towards sin? What kind of born-again experience is it that makes Christ our Savior, but fails to make Him Lord of our lives? And what kind of faith is it that permits us to follow the dictates of this world, and pursue our own pleasures, wants, and feelings, rather than the commandments of God?” What kind of faith is that? James calls it “dead faith.” Where is the evidence of our salvation and new birth if we’re not trying to follow God’s word? We say, “Just confess Jesus and you’re saved.” Jesus says, “Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter into heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father.” We say, “Just say this simple prayer and you’re in.” He says, “If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Quotes from: God’s Little Troublemakers

That's nonsense that people are AFRAID of homosexuals. That's their pet argument to try to diss people who don't agree with their immoral lifestyle.

Please describe it. I'm serious. I've heard this for as long as I can remember, and have yet to understand what this immoral lifestyle is. Do all gays live this immoral lifestyle? Can one be gay and live a moral lifestyle? Is there a straight immoral lifestyle? What are the criteria for these? I'm serious. I want to hear.

I'm still waiting. I'll put it in bullet form.
  • Do all gays live this immoral lifestyle?
  • Can one be gay and live a moral lifestyle?
  • Is there a straight immoral lifestyle? (Of course there is, silly!)
  • What are the criteria for these?
If you can't or won't answer these simple questions your whole argument is nothing but a load of Bible-thumping, fire and brimstone, un-Christian crap. Care to refute that?

The martyrs were martyred, not because they pi**ed people off, but because they challenged the power structures of the day and upset the status quo. You claim to be a Christian and you don't know this? The whole thing the Romans had against the Christians was that the Christians appropriated the term "Son of God" for Jesus, instead of Caesar. The earliest extant piece of Christian artwork is a bas relief of Jesus with some disciples. It was patently ripped off from an earlier bas relief of Augustus in the same scenario. The early Christians preached equity, and that threatened Rome and the Sanhedrin.

The religious power structure of today (inexorably tied to Trump and the Republican Senate) is the evangelical church. It is Rome writ large. And, like other power structures throughout history, it needs its scapegoats (ref. homosexuals and women's equality movements). There's "rocking the boat," and then there's "plain meanness." Rocking the boat topples power structures that perpetuate inequity. Meanness simply points fingers and alienates others. Jesus rocked the boat. Evangelicals merely holler obscenities.

Your post here is an excellent example of the kind of misappropriation of messages, twisted to serve the gods of power, that turns people away from Xy. Thank you for providing that example.

Yes, we're here to help facilitate transformation, but we do that through love, not through judgment. Instead of "exposing sin," we ought to "expose love" inherent in all people.

If you think unrepentant gays or straights are moral you're deluding yourself. Unless all repent of their sexual immorality (as defined in the Bible) and turn to Christ they will be lost (Luke 13:3, John 3:36, Rev. 21:8, etc.).

Some do many don't. But the amount of hate-filled obscenities coming back from left-wing "Christians" who think they can fornicate, engage in homosexual acts, and sin like the devil, and who are incensed when they're called out for their unbiblical acts and views, is loud, often, and straight out of the devil's mouth.

Your post is a load of horse manure. Wise up.

Homosexuality isn't addressed in the bible. Another example of twisting and finger-pointing.

They send themselves when they kick Christ to the curb. But if they've never heard of Christ and the gospel, then they are judged on their own acts and conscience, good or bad (Romans 2).

So because i was born in to a Christian family and personally converted to Buddhism you say God will condemn me? Maybe this view is one reason i did leave Christianity behind

You kicked Christ to the curb for a dead fat man who can't save a flea from a puddle of spit? And you have to wonder about your eternal fate? Wow. I refer you to John 3:36, John 14:6, and Rev. 21:8.

"Defending themselves against the infidel hoard" must be that secret Spartan phrase for "Doing butt stuff with the boys".

I can't blame them. I certainly wouldn't mind getting my end phalanxed by this dude, if you know what I mean.

Interesting to think of the extent to which "jesus" helped
to bring about the utter destruction of israel.

There's no damnation for the saved. One also should be aware of their spiritual identity. You should have had this:
The Bible is very clear many will fully believe they have all those things, yet when they come before Christ he will deny them saying "I don't know you." (Luke 13:27)

They failed to defend themselves against anyone, really, after a certain point as they refused to change but the rest of the world did. This "certain point" is clear only about a century after the Battle of Thermopylae.
