“A federal probe into hush money payments made to protect Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign has concluded, according to a judge’s order released Wednesday.

At issue is an investigation led by the Southern District of New York connected to Michael Cohen, the former personal lawyer to Trump who is serving a three-year prison term in part for breaking campaign finance law. Trump himself was implicated in Cohen’s crimes, which involved hush money payments to women that federal prosecutors have said were designed to sway the presidential election.”

“Jay Sekulow, a personal attorney for the president, welcomed the news. ‘We are pleased that the investigation surrounding these ridiculous campaign finance allegations is now closed,’ he said in a text message. ‘We have maintained from the outset that the President never engaged in any campaign finance violation…Another case is closed.’”

From what I understand campaign finance law violations are fairly common and usually result in a fine.

What's left to convict Trump on?

That is a relief. The less corruption in government the better. Lets hope that all of it can be put behind us and that the two warring parties can get back to partying and annoying reasonable people in less frightening ways.

Honestly I am surprised about this. I thought the NYC cases would be the route to take with investigations as the DOJ is executive and Congress is well... Congress.

Yup. I think Clinton and Obama were both fined due to violations. Seems like a common issue with campaign organization at the core.

I think he may have cut the tag off a new mattress back in 80-81....

And yet Michael Cohen currently sits in jail for this crime that that they will not pursue against Trump. Very strange.

There are quite a few people currently sitting in jail for crimes that they will not pursue against Trump.

There are quite a few people currently sitting in jail for crimes that 'they' will not pursue against ME, for that matter.

I wonder why that is?

Very strange.

Yup. It's almost as if nothing matters and nothing illegal was done, despite facts, arrests, and convictions, just as long as Trump hasn't been convicted. Facts are illegal things did happen, but yet the Trumpeters want to insist nothing at all happened.

You might be right. Trump has been charged with..oh, that's right...no evidence of any wrong doing. Wow! That must sting...

No. I've been saying from the start it wouldn't be surprised if everyone else was doing stuff because Trump is too stupid to get implicated in such conspiracy. Trump knows how to cheat people out of money, not run multi-level schemes that involve lawyers and provocateurs that have histories of illegal and immoral behavior.
What my point was is that some people think none of it matters that people did break the law and were arrested, and they pretend it's all nothing even though people are sitting in jail after having been found guilty.

Oddly enough, not getting implicated in 'such conspiracy' doesn't seem like the earmark of a stupid person.

Or perhaps only the rabid left wingers think that intelligence would prompt one to engaging in one conspiracy after another?

I've never been able to figure them out, come to think....

Too stupid as in unable to pull off such an elaborate thing on his own, and just like his campaign, this too was carried out by other people.

I wish people would make up their minds. Either Trump is too stupid to get caught up in a myriad of conspiracy theories, and that's a problem, or he ...

Well, never mind.

He did manage to get himself elected president. While I can't categorically state that doing so is an indication of intelligence, perspicacity and wisdom (after all, I'm not all that convinced that, say, Jimmy Carter is all that bright...) , I don't get the folks who figure that an ability to stay OUT of the conspiracies formed by those who got him his office is the sign of stupidity.

But then, I'm afraid that I would, indeed, point out that the emperor is naked, too.

I've remained consistent in my thoughts regarding this issue.
He did manage to get himself elected president.
He had a very talented team working for him. Trump can't run a casino, air lines, etc. all. There is no way he could have done a presidential campaign on his own.

Evidently he was smart enough to beat every other Presidential contender in both parties.

As ignorant as even some of Trump's advisers have stated, he's certainly much more intelligent than those who still support him.

He's repeatedly pandered to the masses, and all too many just sucked it up like it was mother's milk. He said he would "drain the swamp", and yet the swamp is now ocean-sized. He said he would "Make America Great Again", and yet he is an international disgrace and has caused much division here. He said he was for the workers, and yet his tax break gives the top 1% a huge tax break while our deficit being significantly ramped-up thus throwing a burden on our children. Etc.

Some don't seem to understand that since the prevailing legal view is that a sitting president cannot be indicted, it would be fruitless for any judge to continue at this time to allow further investigations on the president himself, which is also what Mueller concluded. This is no way implies that there was no culpability by Trump, thus charges could possibly be charged after he's out of office.

Weell....that's going too far for me. He was one of about 20 people, and the poll results determined who could carry a vote. He may not be very smart or he may.
