I came upon this question on a YouTube video and thought I'd pass it along..

"What if archeological evidence came to light showing that Jesus never existed. Moreover, the evidence is clear that no one even like Jesus ever existed. There was no prophesied Messiah.

Would you

1. Go on believing in him

2. Switch to a Judaism

3. Look elsewhere for spiritual support

4. Drop religion altogether

Why?

I would say that whomever came up with that idea is ignorant of science and how it works, or a liar.

You cannot prove a negative with archeological evidence.

So, a man who never existed, has had a major influence on hundreds of countries, and billions of people within 2,000 years?

I don't think so.

This is such a cop-out answer. a lot of "what ifs" won't or can't happen, but that doesn't mean people can't answer them honestly.

No, the cop out are brain dead threads such as these, that try to take Jesus the Christ out of our lives. Pointless, usleless entertainment.

The if will not ever be so, so get used to it.

All Christains, Muslims and all Baha'i have confirmed Jesus. The Baha'i dispensation will last at least 500,000 years, thus Jesus will be known at least until then, He is confirmed in the writings of Baha'u'llah. Thus Jesus the Christ will be loved for eternity.

That's okay. The question wasn't aimed at Baha'is or other non-Christians anyway. I think Tony just had a burr up his behind and was looking for relief.

Nothing my eye, Something for sure
Because that is exactly what i did. I sought other spiritual counsel. There is a cumulative case that can be made for the existence of a God. Naturalists reject the case, and those that subscribe to it do so because it satisfies their intuituons.

As for Jesus not existing, i came to the conclusion that there might be a historical Jesus whom most likely isnt a divine being. Even the notion that Jesus exists relies on human historical accounts, and can be easily dismissed. Why would salvation of people rely on belief of someone that existed so long ago! The unreasonableness of the demand became obvious to me. And one reading of the OT convinced me that there is no literal history to be believed. The amount of investigation needed to believe the bible is true is extensive and i did not think those stories warranted exhaustive study.

Not a game player, huh. I understand, some people get a little scared thinking of the possibility and have to beg off. No harm done. We're good.

A person's faith would have to be pretty weak to begin with it if were in danger of being destroyed by Skwim's posts.

All fine, but irrelevant. No one is asking to change your beliefs.

What if I asked you what would you do if you were given a million dollars, but you could only spend it on others? You would still be perfectly capable of answering that question even if that scenario would never happen in real life. I can understand such questions being uncomfortable. In that case simply ignore it and move on instead of making a point to provide a non-answer.

Lets play hypotheticals !!

What if science proves that you don´t exist.

B) Rush to tell those to whom you owe money ? Y N

C) Tell your wife ΅I told you so¨ ? Y N

D) Remember you committed suicide 2 years ago ? Y N

Why ?

No to all. Why? Because I wouldn't exist.
See how easy that was?

Jesus is prophesied in the OT not as the Messiah, but instead as the modern day idol of Israel. He existed and he was crucified. His manner of death is called "the deaths of the uncircumcised". Ezekiel 28:10. He has been kicked out of Heaven and reincarnated. Isaiah 14:12. This time he will burst into flames and go to Hell. Ezekiel 28:18-19.

Jesus is still a revered figure in Islam and Bahaism, and the notion of Jesus being not real would toss their entire worldview out of the window, and I guess the mere thought is very frightening judging by the reactions.

Question Everything
There are many faith traditions which exist without Jesus. To become Jewish, there is no baptism for the remission of sins - an interesting thing, they take you as you are. In Taoism, there is no Satan, no hell - just lessons on letting go, being selfless, and accepting of all. I do see the advantages of Jesus' sacrifice - when you feel you have messed up beyond any ability of restoring or fixing it - the idea that another has experienced your pain - it can lead to hope and reasons to go forward. Reincarnation also works though - infinite lives to learn, grow, and experience until one becomes all- knowing. There are multiple paths which all lead to the same refined state - all end in love, grace, wisdom, becoming complete and finding peace and lasting joy.
