I find it interesting that national spider day is March 14, the same day as national butterfly day, both of whom spin sillk, even if just as larva. I was reading about a caterpillar covering itself in silk, wondering how similar it is to spider silk, and later that day discovered the two share the same holiday.
This was significant because I often use the butterfly as the primary symbol of rebirth, ressurection, and what takes place with the soul after death.
So, the butterfly and the spider were my two favorite creatures, because of the lessons they taught me, which no other creatures could. So, it was a surprise to discover that they both have the same national holiday.
"Spiders symbolizes the Mother and the Divine Feminine."(girl power). . In Ancient Egypt, the spider represented the goddess of the Divine Mother, and spiders glorified the miracle of motherhood.
This is because spiders are the most female dominant animal in the world. Butterflies , like spiders, also symbolize the divine feminine.
For those who haven't heard me say this, spiders were my greatest fear. I had to face my fear, hold my fear, love my fear, and love cast out all fear.
I was completely cured of arachnophobia in less than 24 hours. It was a spider that crawled into my cell in a youth correctional facility, and I began working outdoors catching spiders all the time and bringing them back to my cell. People called me the Spider-Man of Alcatraz, and officers did not want to Pat me down.
If I continue to run away from my fear, I would be slave to a phobia. Spiders have become the most sacred of creatures to me for teaching this sermon.
Like a butterfly, a spider also experiences rebirth and transformation. I have had a spider molt, and in a matter of hours look like a completely new creation that is much larger, with new colors.
It sometimes looks like a totally different spider. They leave their exoskeleton behind which looks like a dead corpse, telling me to leave behind the old spiderman, be the new Spider-Man, be the best version of myself, and let worthless parts of me die.
Butterflies teach me the same lessons and parables.
Spiders carry their home inside them, teaching me what Jesus said about the kingdom of God is within us.
Speaking of spider homes, the butterfly wings are designed to escape spider webs, and the colorful designs to deflect spider attacks. This makes spiders the driving force of evolution in some butterflies, making spiders responsible for some of butterflies beauty and qualities.
Spiders are very patient to weave their house and wait for prey to visit.
Butterflies and spiders are yet at the opposite spectrum when it comes to this. Spiders are the greatest animal phobia, the most feared creature on earth. Butterflies are loved and cherished for their beauty, spiders despised for their appearance, but spiders are actually the greater helper of mankind, our friends, and do more good for us over all than butterflies. This teaches me to never judge someone whom others despise , or who have an ugly or scary outward appearance. They may do more good than the people who appear beautiful.
Finally, spiders represent our dark side, and using our dark forces and ugly qualities for the greater good.
