LONDON/DUBAI (Reuters) - An Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander threatened on Friday to seize a British ship in retaliation for the capture of an Iranian supertanker by Royal Marines in Gibraltar.

..."British Royal Marines boarded the ship off the coast of the British territory on Thursday and seized it over accusations it was breaking sanctions by taking oil to Syria. They landed a helicopter on the moving vessel in pitch darkness."

That's pretty hardcore, actually landing on the ship at night.

That 2 million barrels of crude is some wildly expensive oil.. They had to make a 12,000 mile detour to get around KSA and Africa and into the Med. Of course the Iranians are hopping mad.

WWMRD?
It's just a big conspiracy so Trump can start a war because he is more likely to win the election.
At least Trump starting a war to win 2020 was the narrative last month, wonder what it is now?

Do you really think this is a Trump conspiracy?

I suppose that's easy enough to do.

The overland route for Iranian oil to get to Syria is blocked by the Kurds.

Complex things are never entirely this or that.
While initiating war during a presidential campaign is unlikely to be
the plan, he could perhaps perceive a political benefit in doing so.
So it could positively dispose him to "obliterate" (the popular term
among our leaders) Iran.

Those Iranians never follow the rules. And this is with the EU, who had befriended them.

This whole thing was started by Trump, who dishonored an agreement with Iran.
It would be reasonable for Iran to see the British committing an act of war.
This risks retaliation & escalation.
Stupid Brits.
(That last remark is for @oldbadger.)

Btw, I do admit some amusement seeing the Brits,
who excoriate Trump, now acting as his minion.
Hey, Badger...how does it feel to be our b***h?

I agree that Trump provoked this as soon as he took office by negating Obama's agreement. Now what? Let them break the sanctions? You do know there are still more than 6 million Syrian refugees who have fled Syria.. and Russia is reigning in Maher Al Assad. Iran is still carrying weapons to the al Houthis in Yemen.

What do you think is the right thing to do now?

The right thing to do for whom?
For Trump, it would be to....
1) Apologize for the 1953 coup.
2) Apologize for our using Iraq to attack Iran.
3) Apologize for our supplying WMDs used against them.
4) Apologize for downing Iran Air Flight 655.
(One might think that we had, but we never did.
We only tossed coins at the families of victims.)
5) Apologize for voiding the nuke agreement, & admit bad judgment in doing so.
6) Begin talking to them so as to understand their needs & wants.
7) Negotiate peaceful relations.

Bush Jr. already them that with Tony Blair. All that tea must've drown their brains since they didn't learn then either that when America wants to go to war its not actually gonna be all kick *** awesomeness they like to say it is.

Looking back on things, it seems to me Trump really only controlled his mouth as it seems pretty much everything else was planned and organized by some one else. I doubt hed think of or plan on starting a war to win the election, but those he keeps around him are indeed very capable of just such a thing.
