Democrats’ outrageous border cruelty

By Post Editorial Board

June 25, 2019

Democrats are finally acknowledging the border crisis they claimed didn’t exist, yet many still want to deny aid to suffering migrants. It’s beyond cruel.

Nearly everyone now agrees border officials are overwhelmed and conditions at facilities used to hold and process migrants are deplorable. Reports describe children having to sleep on floors, without adequate food or necessary provisions.

Yet many Dems — who for months insisted the crisis “does not exist” (Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer) and is “fake” (House Speaker Nancy Pelosi) — are nonetheless now insisting that any emergency aid comes with tough conditions that risk a veto by President Trump.

Indeed, some resist any funding at all, simply because it would pass through Team Trump’s hands. “I will not fund another dime,” vows Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, arguing Trump can’t be trusted.
Continues

It's amazing how low Democrats will go in order to put up a firewall against the President. It appears as if they forget that when Obama was in office the Democrats wanted to fund a wall that would have cost many billions more than the one Trump proposes.
The offenses against detainees under Obama are long forgotten. Including his ordering illegals trying to cross to be pepper sprayed on different occasions.
Sedition is ugly. Democrats don't care about the kids. They care about the cause; never Trump.

I don't think it's fair to accuse the Dems of cruelty.
I suspect that they pursue the greater good in keeping this situation
in crisis mode. If it weakens Trump politically, then their odds of
beating him in 2020 improve. Then they'll have the power to stop
this abomination & the others they see him pursuing.
Temporary pain & loss lead to long term prosperity & justice.
I don't agree, but theirs is a reasonable position.

With all that is transpiring at the border, and in the detention facilities due to the Democrats, how does someone think the Democrats in Congress aren't responsible? And being their priority is opposing Trump, any and all avenues Trump pursues to correct the border issues being defeated by the House Dem's in majority is indeed cruel.

Emergency Aid for Migrants Badly Divides Democrats

WASHINGTON — Congress is trying to rush $4.5 billion in emergency humanitarian aid to the southwestern border while placing new restrictions on President Trump’s immigration crackdown, spurred on by disturbing images of suffering migrant families and of children living in squalor in overcrowded detention facilities.

But with a House vote on the package planned for Tuesday, some Democrats are revolting over the measure, fearing that the aid will be used to carry out Mr. Trump’s aggressive tactics, including deportation raids that he has promised will begin within two weeks. Republicans are siding with the White House, which on Monday threatened a veto. They oppose restrictions in the measure that are meant to dictate better standards for facilities that hold migrant children and to bar the money from being used for enforcing immigration law. They always believe that the other side is fully responsible for bad things.
This is easy with complex issues...just look at facts which support only
what one wants to believe.
But back to my prior point, they're causing short term woe in order to gain
power to create long term good. Sacrifices must be made.

WWMRD?
It is interesting that when there are problems there is a rush to blame and that goes for both sides of the aisle, the way I see it the spike in immigration has overloaded the system and because of this shortages happen and it takes time to react.

That being said it wasn't that long ago that many in the news and some posters on this board said the crisis wasn't real.

What we were pointing out was that the "crisis" is manufactured; largely created for political purposes.

Yes, there are currently a lot of refugees. Yes, our facilities are overwhelmed.
The Republicans don't seem to want to put any extra money or effort into fixing it. They're content to blame the victims for their predicament and condemn them as criminals. Only the Democrats seem to have any compassion or christian charity for these refugees.

I don't think someone who lives well can make that call. The Democrats are causing short term woe in order to gain? And that's not cruel?

Let Pelosi or Abomination of Congress or Sanders or the Somali Muslim Anti-Semite in Congress be let to stay in a detention camp. Let them survive under their own politics there.

The same reason they don't care we're being invaded from our southern border region, that MS-13 are entering America regularly and killing people you don't hear about because the news media keeps it quiet, but it isn't if you know cops in major cities, won't allow that detention stay to happen. Because the rich law makers know they'll never ever have to suffer the abandonment of moral principles they demonstrate in their sedition against Trump and this nation.
They live behind walls that Pelosi claims are immoral. When under Obama she was all for a border wall.
They have body guards, so they don't worry about home invasion by ruthless MS-13 Satan worshiping gang members.
We have to live with their indifference and playing of partisan politics and seditious acts on the Hill.

I don't approve illegals being detained at all. I think there should be transport C-5's on standby at the local AFB. And those so called many thousands gathered up in a week or less should be put aboard and flown south. Back to the country that is qualified to be that sanctuary nation for those claiming to be refugee's seeking asylum.
Men, women, children.
And with regard to the children, we don't even know if they're the blood relative of the adult who has them in custody.
Human trafficking is an issue here as well. One issue among many.

The asylum laws are clear. So called refugee's are to seek asylum at the nearest country outside the border of their nations area of threat. Asylum & the Rights of Refugees | International Justice Resource Center

America isn't it! We're suppose to believe so called caravans of thousands trek for days from the south and central America's in order to pass through Mexico and invade us here. Because they're seeking sanctuary. That's not how the sanctuary laws work.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

With open borders and sanctuary cities I would say a good fair amount of blame goes on the Socialist Democrats. This situation would probably be not this bad in the first place if it wasn't for the encouraging of illegal activity by telling people essentially go ahead and jump over the fence

I can see why someone thought they needed to reiterate the OP is an opinion piece, i.e. editorial.

For all others, there is a link in the OP's editorial piece at the linked source site. This is the video of that reporting (link).

What a completely nonsensical post, so either some source you're using has effectively brainwashed you or you just like fabricating or parroting "alternative facts".

And if your OP was supposedly true, then why is it that the Dems got an aid bill in the House last night passed to help the refugee families but then Trump comes back and says that he would veto it if it's passed in the Senate?!

The Republicans have been asking for increased funding to deal with the border for months now. The Democrats are the ones who don't want to give any funding at all to CBP, with people like AOC and Rashida Tlaib saying "#notonedollar" (Washington Post). Even the New York Times editorial board has said "Congress, give Trump his border money".
The crisis at the border isn't manufactured. Border towns are overwhelmed, record numbers of migrants are crossing the border, and children and families are dying in the desert and drowning in rivers. Mumps outbreaks are running rampant, (WVTF, the Southwest Virginia branch of NPR) many people crossing the border aren't refugees by international law, but economic migrants who "miss Buffalo Wild Wings" and "miss PlayStation" (Vox). The Democrats are the ones saying that increasing border security and building a border fence is "immoral" without offering any viable alternatives to solving the massive humanitarian crisis at the border. They're not offering any serious suggestions on where these hundreds of thousands of migrants should be placed or how this historic tide of people should be stemmed. I'm all ears if anyone on the Democratic side actually has any alternatives other than whining and moaning about underfunded and underresourced detention centers, which the Democrats in turn refuse to fund, thus perpetuating the problem we're currently facing.

More cold & calculating .
(Setting aside their agenda, I can understand the tactic.)

Those in government don't have to live by many things they impose upon others.
That's just business as usual.

Laws might be clear, but intent ultimately determines enforcement.
Either side could cure the problem if they wanted.
Trump could open the borders.
Dems could fund the detention centers, the asylum process, & better border security.
But I don't see either giving ground in these ways.

Caution:
I observe & try to understand, but this does not mean I condone it.
I could never stomach what appears to garner success in politics.

Democrats aren't advocating open borders. Where'd you get that idea?
Sanctuary cities? What do you think sanctuary cities are?
Blame to socialist democrats? Blame for what, the immigrants? The immigrants are fleeing social and economic chaos caused by right wing, corporate policies.
Who's been telling people to jump the fence? It's not democrats putting want ads in Mexican and Central American papers seeking agricultural, meatpacking and construction workers.
