You guys are so mean. Average. Sum divided by the count. I am leavening.
I think the anonymity of forums reveals the deep, unfiltered personalities of the people behind the anonymous name. Obviously many people here are angry and hateful but I think that stems from fear. Fear based on uncertainty about their lives, fear of the unknown (the greatest fear of all) and frustration that they are not (or will not) achieve their dreams. Therefore, IMO, they participate in "displaced aggression" AKA "Kick the Cat" behavior. Attacking others as a means to relieve those fears and frustrations.

That's it, I'm leavening too.

That's it, I need another shot of leavening....tonight it's going to be Jägermeister to celebrate my German ancestry. Since I'm an American Heinz 57, tomorrow it might either be Drambuie, Bushmills or Plymouth Gin to celebrate the majority of my other 56 flavors.

Yeah, you might need something to help you rise after all that.

Anonymity is what makes this forum interesting, and certainly a lot safer.

Of course i see the day coming when everyone will be easily located and known by their real names. Internet hell is fast approaching. Imagine that, privacy, a thing of the past.

I thought about just running with the joke and when people asked me "When are you leaving?", I say "Maybe some day. But it will be a slow, laggy transition. I'm experiencing some lag getting there."

But basically the OP is the opposite of my personality. I'm growing to outlast the majority of people in patience and masochism, I think. A good 51%. If I do say so myself.

Don't you think hiding your identity weakens most arguments?

If I'm anonymous, there's always a chance that you might mistake my posts for great wisdom...

If you knew my identity, well, not so much...

I think people's true identity comes out with anonymity.

I think its best to take arguments on their own merits regardless of anonymity.

It neither strengthens nor weakens the argument.

If everybody knew each other on Rf then the comments would be so watered down that barely anything meaningful would be said.

It's two-edged sword: Anonymity frees people to reveal their innermost thoughts, but it can also remove most of their civility.

In Freudian psychological terms; anonymity allows us to reveal our Id without succumbing to our Superego. A normal, stable and happy person might only show their Ego while an unhappy or unstable person might only show their Id. Donald Trump is an example of a person who is almost pure Id.
