The great age of some of the Biblical characters

Is there any evidence to suggest that people lived a lot longer in Biblical times than people do today? For instance Abraham was supposedly 175 when he died. It doesn't seem credible that people would have lived as long as the Bible claims they did. Have any skeletons been dug up from those days which prove this to be true?

Yea they use to live to like 1000 , they were also huge and way bogger then us. Some of them were like 15 feet tall 20 feet tall.

Claims of great age are common to many religions:

Longevity myths - Wikipedia

If one wants to make a person from the past greater one merely exaggerates about that person's age. Eventually myth and history get mixed up so much that one cannot tell where the line between characters based upon a real person or not is.

Yes, and the skulls show they were equipped with,
get this, carborundum teeth!

We womdered how they could eat gritty grains for 850 of 900
years with no teeth, but now we see they never wore
out their teeth.

More research will reveal how they avoided gum disease.

That is just complete utter nonsense. At least among us apes. There might have been one or two live to a hundred naturally but if you noticed life spans since the dawn of man, It's more than obvious.

But that isn't to say eventually we might be able to have people living 170 maybe even two hundred plus years.

When it comes to teeth, I keep thinking of Jaws from James Bond.

No.. people's lives were not longer than our own. They married and had families in the late teens.. Life expectancy was about 40 years with a few living to great old age of 70 or 80.

I think they measured age in dog years back then, which would have meant Abraham was only 25 when he died.

Or maybe the Bible isn't a history book.

The Egyptian pharoahs claimed to have renewed strength and youth from the gods. Its highly likely given the anti-Egyptian material in the rest of Genesis and Exodus that these long years have something to do with mocking Egyptian claims.

Nope.. Scribal errors early on based on 6 rather than 10.

I think that comes from the book titled The Bible Dates Itself. The writer posits that the dating system is based upon the numbering of cubic dice which have six sides. They put forth that that some of the numbers are poorly translated and ought to be in base 6. I'm not sure what to think about that. Numbers like 40 could just be symbolic numbers, but sure.

Consider though the age of Enoch who lives 365 years (in Genesis) before he is taken up, but in Babylonian writings (base 6) the number associated with him is also 365. I don't think its so easy to explain that as a Math malfunction from base 6 to base 10. He has a counterpart in Babylonian mythology in which the number 365 also is prominent. Even in Babylonian writings they use 365 for him, or so I have heard. I guess...its possible that the number system was completely confused by Ezra, but I'm not sure about that.

Of course I don't give any actual credence to the ages put on the Biblical characters, I am glad others don't appear to either.

I also thought it was impossible, untill I studied the creation epoch.
I will lateron create a thread on that topic, but let me give you some food for thought.
According to the Bible, there was 2 eons on the composition of the Earth.
1. the first was when the Earth formed as a watery collection of solids, liquid and gasses.
during this time the Bible states something I at first found curious. It did not rain upon the Earth and a mist covered the Earth.
2. the second eon was after a great flood covered the Earth. it says all the fountains of the deep and the rain in the heavens covered the surface of everything. This was the first time it rained.

now, this was what trigered my thinking. If there was no rainbows in the atmosphere before the flood, the atmosphere was a totally diferent composition than what we have today.
I kept in mind that the Atmosphere was very moist before the flood, and looked at what science says about ageing and the atmosphere and found the following facts.

1. The Human (animal) body ages because of radiation.
  • if it was not for our atmosphere, cosmic radiation will have us age at least 7 times faster than the current environment has an effect on us.
  • if our atmosphere was a wet and foggy environment, radiation will be much less, and we will be much healthier.
  • if we were to live on mars, radiation will kill us off due to old age in less than 10 years.
2. The Atmosphere contains C14 and this is what makes us age.

  • Due to N14 being hit by cosmic radiation at the outter reaches of the atmosphere, Carbon 14 is created.
  • C14 is taken up by plants, and gets distributed into human, and animal bodies as we eat plants and animals.
  • C14 damages millions of cells every minute in our bodies, and this is the reason for ageing.
  • our cells can only replicate so much, due to telemeres shortening, and eventually we dont have any functioning organs left, and we die.
3. Now guess what I learned about the 2 points I made?
if the atmosphere was a moist environment before the flood, and changed 4600 years ago, there was virtually no C14 in the atmosphere for 1500 years untill Noah, and people would have remained healthy and strong and more youthfull than their descendends after the atmosphere cleared out to allow rainbows to appeared.
after the atmosphere cleared, C14 would be produced and will only about 500 years later reach the "Equlibrium" science measures today. It simply means there was a gradual buildup of C14 over time, and for say 200 years of this 500 years, the atmosphere was still healthy.

if one take the ages of the Biblical people from Adam to Abraham, it forms a graph which shows a deteriation of ages as time progresses. The worst effect is after the flood as expected.
Now, guess what I also learned.
There are companies that grows C14 free food in tunnels for the ultra rich, to prevent them from absorbing C14.
well, who is the most intelligent people now?
Those that know why we age, or those who make a mockery of the Bible without knowing the truth.
I simply love the Bible and what it knows!

Whatever turns you on, that book is a HUGE turn off where I am concerned.
