What are the best ways to enjoy summer?

In the house. Where the air conditioner is. knitting.

Or arguing with you people.

I'll break out long enough to go to the 'christening" (we don't baptize babies, but we bless them) for my granddaughter and grand nephew. Will take my parents up to Utah to deliver a costume for "Seven Brides" to my daughter....and see some of the scenery in and around Logan.

Then I'll come home, do more chemotherapy, sit under the air conditioning and knit. And argue with you people.

Sounds like a good summer to me. ;)

I'm a planet
Summer is when I work on my research. Currently I'm trying to make sense of survey results from the Pagan Interview Project. Open-ended questions take a non-trivial amount of time and effort to categorize. My favorite response so far, when asked "As a Pagan, what is one thing you would like Christians to know?" was "My imaginary friends are no more ridiculous than your imaginary friend". It made me chuckle.

We enjoy receiving visitors from back home, we can take then to see the sites that we must have seen 10 of 20 times but still love.

Breakfast (whenwitx cooler) picnics by the river watching the swifts and herons catching their breakfast in the shadow of Richard the Lionhearts place in the country.

Walks in the surrounding forests.

Long cycle rides, if its not to hot.

Watching or participating in a boules match.

With 3 kids there is a lot of minutiae that takes up an amazing amount of time.

Spirit of Light

Be who ever you want
Maybe this will surprise some :) But i really like to skate with rollerskates :) so i use some of my summer to skate the streets nearby where i stay

Yep.

I knit.
I also quilt, crochet and spin my own yarn.
I paint, too, both oils and acrylics, but I like acrylics better because I'm extremely impatient.

As to WHAT I knit....

That sort of thing. I also sing. What I do NOT do is anything outdoorsy...not in the summer. ;) I have a problem with walking...never mind RUNNING, in 105 degree heat. So I don't golf or play tennis or hunt pokemons.

You COULD talk me into going to the beach and swimming, however.

I thought it was the AC that was knitting... Then i spotted the comma

One of my favorite books is a little wonder called 'Eats Shoots and Leaves" The joke goes: a panda goes into a bar, eats a bunch of celery, shoots his neighbor and leaves the premises. When asked why he did it, he pointed to the book he had, which said that Pandas eat, shoots and leaves.'

Commas are important. ;)

Spend it somewhere other than Britain...

I'd love to spend another summer in Britain...Summer was lovely there. On the other hand, I remember a very big ad promoting air conditioning, which had a wilting family sweating and uncomfortable at 80 degrees. I thought...EIGHTY DEGREES? Could they mean CELSIUS? But no...in Celcius that would be 26.6 something. They really meant 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

The ad was saying that with air conditioning in the house (and they were advertising an evaporative cooler, which raises a whole nuther set of problems in the UK) nobody had to wilt in such extreme temperatures.

Er....Eighty degrees? Wow.

We don't turn on the AC until the outside temps reach 90 or above, and probably not until we get to 100.

So if I could spend the summer in Britain, where everybody starts getting weird about the temp when it reaches 80...(sigh) heaven. I'd take my knitting outside. ;)

That's what I think I like best, the outdoorsy stuff. I could hike cliffs for miles, or trails deep in the woods.. canoeing would be awesome. It's just that it sort of a bummer to do that stuff alone, and other people wear out when I could go on with it for miles more.. They end up wanting to go home. One thing I can't do though is stay in one spot outside in direct sun for a long time, heavy humidity is ok though.

I could go for overcast days that are below 80.. that would be great. I can see clearest in that kind of condition and the air is coozy, here there are hot days where you have to squint and the sun burns me in 40 minutes... right now I'm sort of stuck inside waiting out a possible lightning storm, I don't know if there will be high winds.. do you have severe storms in britian

Lucky, its been 85 in the shade for the last couple of days, forecast to to reach over 100 later in the week

Jumped in the car this afternoon, temp said 46 (114) but it was in full sun

You'd be wearing your knitting inside this year :snowman:

I've done over 5 of my 7 weeks holiday and I'm not sure it's reached 20c/70f never mind 26/80c. It's barely reached 10c some days (Scotland is a fair bit worse than England in this regard)

Not sure you can see that clearly when the air is full of mist and rain :D

Storms aren't that bad, cold, wind and rain favours the persistent over the spectacular. I actually live in the tropics which is pretty much the opposite: 30 mins of ludicrous thunder, rain and :zap::zap::zap: then :blacksunrays:.

I prefer nice British weather to tropical weather, but if you are lucky that's 1/4 of the year.

But there are some nice bits of the UK to visit.

There are. It really is 2 different countries, one great one when it's sunny, and a miserable one when it's cold and wet.

Last year was great, sunny every day. Go outside, play golf, walk up a hill, drink outside with friends.

This year not sure there have been 3 sunny days. Hunker inside thinking "I'll do that tomorrow, if the weathers better" (it wasn't).

The rest of Europe has a mega heatwave, and the UK is still like October

I like the mood that mist gives off.. a good fog around here is kind of uncommon, unless it's really early in the morning for a short time

Yeah this summer so far in the american midwest hasn't been that warm itself, but I fully expect july and august to be unpredictable.. we could easily have some two week stretches at 90 upcoming.. sometimes we go up and down between heat that turns acres of green grass yellow, and winters that freeze everyone's water lines at weeks of -20 F..

What? Me worry?
For us, playing outdoor gigs is to die for.. (We have played outdoors in the winter, but summer is waay more fun.)
