I do hope this thread doesn't get closed as being too harsh, because well, sometimes even things without the best answers, do result in progress in some form upon deep thought.

I have personally been fibbing to myself that I don't have any problems with Christianity. If I was truely honest about the subject, tears wouldn't be coming down from my face right now in the form of a good, solid cry, not because anyone hurt me in this thread, they really didn't, but because I've had years of mistreatment from people in real life who call themselves Christians yet seem to misunderstand the subject. For that reason, maybe I do have a little religious bigotry, but I didn't mean for it to be in a deceptive way.

No 'harshness!' from me. I use pointed terms, but there is no hostility from me. I see us all as lost little lambs, wandering alone in the dark, trying to find something..

Sometime, check out the old poem, 'The Blind Men and the Elephant.' It is very apropos for philosophical 'debates'.

I like you, @AT-AT .. you are a refreshing change from the hordes of MADAs, that seem to gravitate toward these forums.

I'm pretty good, with spelling and grammar, but i don't obsess over it.
Worry not....we've several annoying posters who'll step up to the task.

And for other posters....
"Loathe" is the verb.
"Loath" is the adjective.
How to remember it?
The verb "breathe" ends in an "e" too.

That moment when you realize a thread went from being about people not being respectful of Christianity, to being of the issue of us taking the Bible too literally and going back to the times when men kissed each other on the cheek.

Ah yes, the old, 'you are personally ruining Christianity, by defending it from attacks!'
Christian, are not ruining by merely defending it, they ruin the message by not practicing what is preached. Such as:

2 Timothy 2:23-24 Colossians 3:7-9 1 Peter 3:15 Philippians 4:5 Colossians 4:5-6 Galatians 6:10

And people take notice of this.

Well, that seems to be a human problem. Buddhists do the same. This does not invalidate the ideology, that fallible humans are unable to acheive its lofty ideals..

I have that problem. The other day I was being really mean with a New Ager for attacking Christianity because they believed that Christians are evil because of the historical rejection of reincarnation. I get exasperated and angry, it is hard to control, especially when I feel someone is being disrespectful with something I closely identify with and hold dear. It is like they said something bad about my mother.

I live in Sedona.. the new age capital of the world. :)

We have pagans, vegans, goddesses floating in white robes, and channeling from Joan of Arc to Genghis Khan. I've not personally had problems, and have known many, very well. It is a cultural thing, i suppose.. most new agers are fairly tolerant of diversity, and can 'live and let live'.

Religious bigotry, and all its ugliness, is the bigger problem. It seems to rear its ugly head often, in the forums..

The American and Enlightenment values of 'freedom of conscience', seems lost on some who demand homogeneity of belief.

I suppose you're right. You may not have seen it, but I did talk subjects like "social progress" for awhile, the theories of it. And we did have a certain member before you came speak a lot on the subject of improving the forum. But I've kind of been neither here nor there lately, myself. I've had a lot going on in life.

I am just not very tolerant of hippies (I was a punk rocker in my youth). Anyway that said, some find it difficult to respect the differences and they either try to crush the opposition like in big atheists v. Christians battle or they try to assimilate your beliefs into their worldview and end up twisting them like New Agers v. just about everybody.

Another thing, I am kind of suspecting that some atheists on this board are high school or college kids who just discovered atheism and are out to prove themselves by being edgy little edgelords.

Yes, that is kind of what we have teen trying to
get you to realize.

In this case, you completely missed the obvious-

That you are presenting that without "god",
telling you that it is not cool, you would
readily go out and commit mass murder.

We are wondering what is wrong with you
that you need some "god" to keep you in check,
and, for that matter, why you think others are
like you. We aren't.
¨You¨ statements are personal accusations, personal attacks.

I have not once accused you of anything, said anything about how you relate to your belief structure..

The only you statements I recall making to you were complimentary and supportive.

I told you no such thing about mass murder, you are assuming, wrongly. Nor do I think others are like me, and I never said that.

You have personal rancor towards me, and display it in you words, fine. You will receive no tit for tat responses from me .

The issue is that atheists in control of governments, almost 60% of them, committed massive genocide.

Respond to the facts.

I do have a thought question.

I have homosexual thoughts. Suppose one of you did convert me to Christian Fundamentalism. A standard belief of Christian Fundamentalism is believing homosexuality is a terrible sin. So if I continue to have homosexual thoughts, do I spend all day every day praying to Jesus for forgiveness, or do I just accept that I'm evil?
Why would you become a Christian Fundie? ;)

I'm not one but from what I've read, they condemn the act, not the thought.
