Misinformation as weapon in Indian Election 2019

Alt News is one information channel that specialises in busting fake news, which mostly has been the work of IT cell of BJP. Anyone who dares to point out the lies of the majoritarian government loses all avenues of legitimate revenue, risks social boycott, and threats. Journalists have lost their jobs. And at least a journalist Gauri Lankesh was killed.

Sadly fake news is now a tool in political battles in India as well as the USA and elsewhere.

It's been that way since capitalism and the liberal democratic system took the world by force, it's hardly a new phenomena.

The World Wars had it going in full force, called war propaganda.

For sure the world wars are where ideological narratives were put to their highest stress and where parties from every side engage in some degree of fake news, however the ideology informing said propaganda had been established and slowly cultivated for decades prior to the war.

Not sure what the answer is to validating news in an unbiased way
Perhaps there is a space for an aggregation of news to catch all views and hopefully corrective manner. List side by side various news with a rating of mostly factual, slanted left, slanted right... etc

No, just before the liberal era the printing press wasn't essential to the feudal organization.

So gansters was a preferable social organization. Feudalism. Where basically mafia dons ran society? I mean yea things are not oerfect now but inam. Not sure they used to be better either.
