10 laughably erroneous claims of the bible

Sorry, that question doesn't make any sense.
I disagree. Which is probably why we will never get anywhere. O r maybe not.

Let's go over the list a bit. The problem with a vague prophecy is that it can be interpreted to having been "fulfilled" multiple times. Look at the prophecies of Nostradamus. Some of those have "been fulfilled" three times or more. Vague general statements matched up with events that are not all that uncommon in the world of politics. The hits are counted and the misses are ignored. They are not properly written prophecies since one will never really know whether they have been fulfilled or not.

8. It claims that the mustard seed is the smallest seed, when in fact, the orchid seed, among others, are smaller than the mustard seed:

Matthew 13:32:1 "Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof."
This is a weak one to put in your list IMO:
It says "Which indeed is the least of all seeds BUT when grown ... becomes a tree ... birds lodge in the branches"
So there are more than just 1 criterion (3 here) ... Orchard does not grow into a tree, so that birds ...etc

Sometime it's not meant to be taken "too" literal:
Just a nice description about how a tiny seed becomes a big tree where birds can take shelter etc

That's why you'll never learn anything.

You are angry.
Angry bitter people thrive on goading and mocking others. And this occurs because they are deeply unhappy with their life and seek to gain a respite from that condition by working to create anger and bitterness in others. There are more than just one of that type dysfunctional personality joining Christian forums.
What such people don't understand about the Christians they seek to provoke is that we do not rise in kind to that invitation. Rather, we learn from it.
The angry goading mocker personality hides behind a monitor because they'd dare not behave off line and face to face as they do on-line. The anonymity factor of the Net gives them false courage and license to exercise their demons. And therein the Christians lesson there is to witness what we could have become before we found our Savior.

Most importantly though is that a Christian doesn't rise to that invitation because by its very presence before us we are made aware that personality is lost and needs prayer. And so you have it.

And yet you never even tried to address my OP and instead have tried to attack me as a person. The Christian way lol. Attempt to change the subject when the Bible's errors make you uncomfortable.

Well, as said before I'm not a teenager and I'm also not angry. In fact, I am laughing every time I see a new response to my thread. Glad to see that you admit at least a part of the Bible is a fictional Fairy tale.
Given your level of maturity, I think my initial assessment is correct; you are much younger than you purport to be.

And yet you never even tried to address my OP and instead have tried to attack me as a person.
The acrimonious intention with the OP was clearly intended to personally attack every Christian on this forum.

Now you play the victim because you are recognized for that and your motives too? Your animus for Christians is impossible to ignore.
Think about what you're doing here.
You're spending hours of your life in a room on a PC using search engines to find sites hostile to our faith , the Bible, morality, just so you can copy and paste and deliver the enmity both you and your sources hold for the faith.
The Christian way lol. Attempt to change the subject when the Bible's errors make you uncomfortable.
Your laughter reiterates the observation you are an enemy of the faith and the Christians here.
No one has changed the subject of the OP. It isn't changing the subject when the author of the subject under scrutiny has nefarious motives. It is recognizing the motives of the source, yourself, behind the publishing of the falsehoods that are contained in the OP .

Your intention was not to have the ten points refuted. Your intention was to publish the points as a vehicle of mockery and derision.

We know you by what you bring to our attention. It is perfectly acceptable to scrutinize your behavior when you hope to gain our attention with this kind of thread. And you attacked your own character personally when you admitted here that when people respond to your thread you hoped would receive attention, you laugh. That shows you weren't interested in your points being corrected with actual Biblical fact.

What a tragic place to live in. You post in hate to us but that hate lives in you.
You are certainly worthy of the prayers of every Christian who cares to care for you. You see, we do not have to be affected by your efforts. We read, move on. Or we read, post, and move forward hoping you'll wake up, realize your deficit and that it is only harming you and no one else, and move on.

That you insist upon your style of behavior in public here before all people, not just Christian members, and in this way is quite frankly pitiful. And pitiable. How very very sad.
Life is a blessing. Fresh air, sunshine, so much to do in the world and right in our own backyard so as to nourish our spirit and bolster our joy.
And here you are, striving for the antithesis of that way of life.

You have my deepest sympathies. May God's love shine the light before your path that you see through your darkness the way to change and live happy.
Amen.

I'm going to leave this thread now. It is in God's power that you may be delivered. All you have to do is realize you're worth it. You don't even have to read the Bible. Just open your heart knowing you want more than how you are and live now.
Your behavior here is a cry for help. I've read that. God knew you before you were born as he is creator of all that is, was, or ever shall be. He knows too.

God isn't actually a male. God is a title for creator. God is spirit. Holy spirit. The masculine pronoun is used in a relational context and was applied in a time of the patriarchs when males were in leadership in society and the temple.

God is actually gender neutral. Neither female nor male. So one can use feminine pronouns to describe God and relate to that creative holy spirit if they wish. Ours is a relationship with power. The power of all creation, within all creation, and including you yourself that are, whether you wish it or not, approve or not, part of that creative power. When holy spirit is creator of all things of itself and from itself there is no thing that can be of any thing other than creator holy spirit. So whether you realize it or not, you are of God.

Love you! You are one of a kind. When you pass from your life there will never be another you to walk this earth. Leave a positive loving legacy. So that when that day comes and you close your eyes on this world and your time in it people will weep for missing you. Not celebrate to learn you are finally gone.

May you open to the peace of Christ.
In the service of the holy spirit and the name of Emmanuel, through these words and amen,
Diana

I laughed at the replies that deserved ridicule, because they failed to address the subject of the OP. And, you, like others are continuing to try to change the subject, since it obviously makes y'all uncomfortable. If anyone is behaving with immaturity, it's the Christians trying to derail my thread by making unfounded assumptions about me as a person rather than addressing the biblical errors. But, I get it. I used to believe the Bible was inerrant. I know it's easier to ignore the errors in your favorite book than to accept them.

The Bible contains numerous scientific errors, including (but of course not limited to) the following:

1. It says the earth is flat:

Isaiah 40:22: "He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in."

2. It says that the earth rests upon pillars:

1 Samuel 2:8 "..for the pillars of the Earth are the Lord's, and he hath set the world upon them...."

Job 9:6 "...and the pillars thereof tremble..."
Psalm 75:3 "...I bear up the pillars of it ..."

3. It claims that the sky is a solid firmament and that water is above it:

Genesis 1:6 "....and God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the
waters from the waters."

4. It claims the stars are small enough to fall to the earth without destroying the earth:

Revelation 6:13: "and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind."

Revelation 8:10:
"And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;"

5. It claims that the earth does not move:

Pslam 96:10 "...the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved."

6. It claims that the sun revolves around the earth, rather than the other way around:

Psalm 19:6: "It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth."

7. It claims that insects have four legs:

Leviticus 11:20-23: "All flying insects
that walk on all fours are to be detestable to you. There are, however, some winged creatures that walk on all fours that you may eat: those that have jointed legs for hopping on the ground. Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket or grasshopper. But all other winged creatures that have four legs you are to detest."

9. It claims that ants have no rulers, when in fact, ant colonies have a hierarchical structure with a queen (ruler) and worker ants:

Proverbs 6:6-7: "Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler,"

10. It claims that pi is equal to 3.

2 Chronicles 4:2: "He made the Sea of cast metal, circular in shape, measuring ten cubits from rim to rim and five cubits high. It took a line of thirty cubits to measure around it."

Many parts of the Bible aren't meant to be taken as literal factual truths, perhaps each of these quoted Biblical scriptural verses have a deeper inner spiritual meaning.

RF's Swedenborgian
Many of the world’s population believe that this book called the Bible is actually the Word of God. Whether you believe this or not, there's no denying the power of the Bible’s influence around the globe—in both good and bad ways. Emanuel Swedenborg’s spiritual experiences and resulting philosophies reveal deeper, spiritual messages contained within the Bible. Throughout his writings, Swedenborg takes what many consider to be a book of outdated moral lessons and turns them into modern, timeless messages of love and hope for people of all genders, races, and religions.

On our own we know nothing of heavenly and spiritual affairs, so we learn about them from divine revelation, which is the Word. —Secrets of Heaven 3880

There's biblical revelation of every era of humanity that Swedenborg described in his writings. From the beginning of the human race, which was very close to heaven and had direct communication with God, all the way to the eighteenth century, when Swedenborg was writing.
By that point in human history, much evil had been done in the name of God and religion. Swedenborg said the revelation for our modern era is a new understanding of the true meaning of scripture. As portrayed in this animated excerpt from True Christianity, Swedenborg actually had a defining vision for a new spiritual mindset for humanity.
Immediately after experiencing this life-changing vision, Swedenborg then had an interaction with an angel who explained how he should explore the hidden meanings of the Bible to learn and share the truths about the Lord.

From that point on it became Swedenborg’s mission to study the literal words within the Bible to uncover the internal sense of the Word of God.

Swedenborg became so passionate about his new mission that his first and largest title, called Secrets of Heaven, was a verse-by-verse exposition on the books of Genesis and Exodus.

It is characteristic of the Word’s style that there is something holy in every statement, even in every word, even at times in the letters themselves; so the Word unites us to the Lord and opens heaven…The Word fills us with good desires that come from love and truths that lead to wisdom, provided we read it with the help of the Lord and not just on our own. It fills our will with good desires that come from love and fills our understanding with truths that lead to wisdom. As a result, we gain life by means of the Word.Sacred Scripture 3

Swedenborg was so diligent in his explorations of the Bible that he discovered the many times things are paired together over and over again, and he even offered an explanation for the dualities of the Bible.

Swedenborg says these things are paired together purposefully to symbolize the union of the heart (love) and the mind (wisdom) as one. It’s a powerful revelation that serves as the basis for Swedenborg’s theory about the Bible’s main message.

There are three different types of narratives Swedenborg described within each book of the Bible from Genesis to Revelations:

Genesis 1-11:
Fictional narratives that are full of symbolic lessons

Rest of Old Testament: Historical and prophetical content with meaning that’s both concealed and unconcealed

New Testament: Historical stories of Jesus’s life that have concealed internal meaning

Essentially, Swedenborg says that even through all the violent and vengeful words of the Bible, the hidden message is about love for the Lord and others. He says that even the Ten Commandments convey this internal meaning and significance

If God wanted to provide us with a printed form of communication to last for eternity, then why would he obscure its true meaning behind complex symbolism? Why wouldn’t the text just mean exactly what it says? Curtis explains Swedenborg’s philosophy about how divine concepts require earthly containers like the Bible and introduces an animated excerpt from Sacred Scripture to explain the concept further.

We can tell from this that in its literal meaning the Word is really the Word. There is spirit and life within; the spiritual meaning is its spirit and the heavenly meaning is its life. This is what the Lord said: “The words that I speak to you are spirit and are life” (John 6:63). The Lord said his words to the world and said them in their earthly meaning. Apart from the earthly meaning, which is the literal meaning, the spiritual and heavenly meanings are not the Word; [without it] they are like a spirit and life without a body—and like a palace that has no foundation to rest on. —Sacred Scripture 39

We can see an example of Swedenborg’s philosophy about literal v. internal through his interpretation of the prophesy about Egypt, Israel, and Assyria becoming one. Swedenborg says that the prophesy represents scholarly study, rational thinking, and spirituality become one—and is the future of science and spirituality working together for the best of humanity.

The Word in Heaven
Indeed, without the Word no one would know anything about the Lord, about love and faith, redemption, or any of the other secrets of heavenly wisdom. In fact, without the Word there would not be a heaven, just as in the world there would not be a church without the Word —The Word of the Lord 14

Swedenborg says the Bible does exist in heaven, but the Word in the spiritual world or afterlife is not the same as the word in the physical world or earth. Spirits and angels have an almost immediate revelation or understanding of the deepest spiritual sense of the Word in heaven so there’s no need for historical narratives and metaphors. In fact, there are different levels of understanding the Word amongst angels depending on the level of heaven they occupy. Chara Daum, a translator for the New Century Edition, explains how angels understand the Bible on different levels.

There are five excerpts from Swedenborg’s writings shedding some more light on the differences between the literal and spiritual meanings of the Word. Throughout his writings, Swedenborg reveals how the Bible is more of a spiritual tour of heaven than a book of moral instructions.

The inner meaning gives the Lord’s Word life. That meaning is like a soul whose body is the superficial sense. The case resembles that with human beings; when our body dies—when we join the angels—our soul comes alive, and when our soul lives, we no longer know anything of bodily affairs. By the same token, we no longer know what the literal meaning of the Word is, only what its soul is. Secrets of Heaven 1143

Enlightenment

If you believe there’s both a literal and internal sense of the Word, you can gain access to the deeper level of understanding. According to Swedenborg, it’s possible to connect with the Word even if you have never read the Bible, are not Christian, and have never followed his teachings on the internal sense.

Swedenborg says the way to connect with the Bible’s spiritual message is to live it—or practice what you preach.
You can be connected to the spiritual Word simply by living a life of love because love for the Lord and others is the core message of the Bible.

In his mercy the Lord accepts and saves anyone anywhere on the globe who has lived a good life, because goodness itself is what accepts truth. A good life is the actual soil in which seed, or truth, is planted. An evil life positively does not accept the seed.Secrets of Heaven 2590

That is because there are no actual prophecies. As much as we would like it people really cannot see the future. Those conditions were reasonable since various religions will always claim those flaws for the prophecies of other religions.

Nice try, Bob, but probably a wasted effort: this is the internet, a place where people who wouldn't understand the directions on a frozen dinner decide they're qualified to dissertate on writings that the worlds most eminent scholars have spent millennium trying to understand.

I have been telling people for ages: I am always correct, if for some odd reason you think I am not then you are just not interpreting me metaphorically enough.

Sigh, here we go again.

1. Is not a ball circular in shape ? Or, do you contend it is a triangle, square or rectangle in shape ?

2. Pillars are allegorical illustrations of the foundation or strength of the earth. It says that the strongest thing the people of the time understood, pillars of a building, were vulnerable to being destroyed, just so the earth.
Do you think if the mantle, tectonic plates floating on magma was written the people of the time would have a better understanding of the very strength of the earth ?

3. It is amazing that you can draw the conclusion you did from the verse you posted. The firmament (land) divided the seas.

4. You quoted a verse that is eschatoloical in nature. This is a prophecy of end times when God reaches into history and ultimately ends the world as we know it. God is omnipotent and can do whatever He chooses. The writer of Revelation is reporting what he sees in Koine Greek, he is reporting supernatural events in the language he writes. If there are no words to describe what you see, you choose the closest words you know.

1. Is not a ball circular in shape ? Or, do you contend it is a triangle, square or rectangle in shape ?

Odd how Christians do not use the original Hebrew when it tells them that they are wrong. And no, a ball is not circular in shape. Circles are flat. Balls are spherical in shape. The word used in the Old Testament was that of an inscribed circle as with a compass and those have to be flat.

So if we can not come up with a facile explanation it is "allegory". The problem is that many Christians are not consistent in this. One question, is all of Genesis and Exodus "allegory". If you say yes then at least you are being consistent.

3. It is amazing that you can draw the conclusion you did from the verse you posted. The firmament (land) divided the seas.

Sorry, but a clear interpretation of the Bible tells us that the firmament was a sold surface. Remember the ancient Hebrews knew almost nothing of our world. When it comes to scientific claims the Bible is almost always wrong.

Or, and this is just a possibility, the writers once again had no clue when it came to astronomy.

Sigh, here we go again.

1. Is not a ball circular in shape ? Or, do you contend it is a triangle, square or rectangle in shape ?

A ball is spherical, not circular. A circle is two-dimensional (flat), and a sphere is three-dimensional.

2. Pillars are allegorical illustrations of the foundation or strength of the earth. It says that the strongest thing the people of the time understood, pillars of a building, were vulnerable to being destroyed, just so the earth.

You assume they are allegorical, but how are we to decide which parts of the bible are literal and which are allegory? It seems as though Christians often dismiss all of the *clear errors* as being "allegory", yet insist that the teachings/doctrines of the bible are not allegory, simply because they cannot be proven to be errors.
3. It is amazing that you can draw the conclusion you did from the verse you posted. The firmament (land) divided the seas.
Incorrect. The firmament clearly is a reference to the sky, and here we see a claim that the sky is solid and that there is water above the sky
Genesis 1:7-8:
"And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day."

And yet, the verse still says that the "stars" will fall to the earth. Again, how are we to assess what is literal and what is allegory? It seems you are arbitrarily deciding that the obvious errors are metaphorical rather than literal, yet we should somehow take the other ideas in the bible as literal truth.

I admit when I first looked at that picture what immediately came to mind is that it was a surrealist sculpture of a penis and scrotum.

Just means you have a dirty mind.

Ancient people who would not understand how stalagmites and stalactites are formed might mistake them as pillars that the earth sits on. Just as they thought the earth was flat. Its what they could observe with their own eyes and make determinations, some of sciences first failures so to speak.

Flying insects can have four legs.

Never denied it.

Just pointing out the Bible is not intended as an Entomology book.

Grasshoppers, Locust, and beetles have four legs. The Bible says these were not forbidden and indeed some people did eat these insects.

Leviticus says Grasshoppers and Locust are ok. Beetles don't count I think. Although I wouldn't eat any of em myself unless I had to.

It is true that ants have no master. Observation of an ant colony make it appear as if what is labeled the largest insect, the queen, is the leader. However she is not, just as in bee colonies. The queen's are actually slaves to the colony. They're sustained because the queen of ants and bee's reproduce the colony and thus sustain the colony or hive. They are prisoners.

Cool didn't know that. But again the Bible is not meant as an Entomology book, even if it dis get that right.

Further example would be the "pillars of the earth". However, I think if they are interested they'll look that fact up for themselves.
I would not hold my breath even though blue is a favorite color.

That's why I cited a physical example of what the pillars of the earth might be. Expecting them to put any effort at all to discover a deeper meaning is futile, so I agree with ya there.

5.¨ The world is firmly established, it shall not be moved." Can anybody other than God move the earth ? Can you or anyone else dis establish it ?

6. I assume you never use the terms SUNRISE or SUNSET ? Based upon your reasoning, we who do use these words believe the sun circles the earth.

7. You are using modern classification as relates to the English word insect. The Hebrews didn´t use this system or the English word insect. In their classification of the time bats were classed with the word translated as insect. Bats were unclean.

8. Would the hearers of the words in Israel have any conception of an orchid seed ? This wasn´t a lecture on small seeds, it was an allegory the hearers could understand about faith.

9. The queen ant rules nothing, she is fed, and produces eggs for the perpetuation of the nest. She has no other purpose. The drones as well hatch, mate with a new queen, and die. Their sole purpose is to breed.
The workers do and are in control of everything else. They go about their business by instinct, nothing needs to control them. You may take this as a short treatise on instinct.
