I am sorry if I am ruining your childhood but there seems to be evidence that Lewis Carroll the author of the children's classic made into a well known Disney film called Alice in Wonderland may have indeed been a pedophile. Some questions must be answered.

What was obsession with Alice Liddell?
Why did he write what could be construed as rather florid love poetry to her?
Why was he obsessed with photographing and drawing nude children?
Why is he not known to have developed a meaningful adult relationship with an adult woman?
Why was he so politically conservative?
Why did the Liddell family refuse to let Alice go alone with Carroll to the lakehouse for a picnic?
Why did the Liddell family break off with Carroll?
Where are the missing diaries and what did they contain?
Why was he refused ordination into the Anglican Church?

So was Lewis Carroll a paedophile? You be the judge. And remember people that Carroll was also the product of the British upper class school system.

I have always thought Alice in Wonderland was the perfect pretext to really roast Queen Victoria...

Btw answering your questions...I hope not.

It is impossible to determine.
Why was did he write what could be construed as rather florid love poetry to her?
I am unaware of it.
Why was he obsessed with photographing and drawing nude children?
I've never heard of that before. That does sound like pedophilia. On the other hand it may have been for some other reason. Why did the great medieval artists of the church make nude statues? They were making some kind of statement which I don't at the moment remember.
Why is not known to have a meaningful adult relationship with an adult woman?
There could be a lot of reasons. For example maybe he never finished wrestling with his religious questions in a society in which religion was paramount. In that case it wouldn't have been fair to any woman he married, so chivalry is a possible answer.
Why was he so politically conservative?
Deeply religious?
Why did the Liddell family refuse to let Alice go alone with Carroll to the lakehouse for a picnic?
My mom wouldn't let some guy, however nice, take one of my sisters for a private picnic, either.
Why did the Liddell family break off with Carroll?
That is a very good question. Perhaps he lacked sense despite being a logician. If he had good sense, then why was he obsessed with logic problems and logical games? Perhaps he was creepy to the family, too. Eccentric people often do come across as creepy.
Where are the missing diaries and what did they contain?
No doubt some religious views that other people wouldn't have accepted. You can see in his stories that he is a very random thinker. I bet he has some brain damage.
Why was he refused ordination into the Anglican Church?
I don't know. Was it a public position?

We'll probably never know for certain. There's just too much information missing to completely prove or disprove the theory that he was sexually attracted to children.

There is however enough information for the question to have been raised in the first place and to cast suspicion on why we don't have the complete picture. Personally, If somebody uncovered conclusive proof that he was attracted to little girls, I wouldn't be all that shocked.

Aha! Further evidence that Lewis Carroll was indeed a paedophile! He was throughout his life rather contemptuous of adult women in positions of authority and of strong character. So he would never be able to develop any attraction towards them and probably subverted his desire for female companionship towards prepubescent schoolgirls

Since these questions came up long after he died I am doubtful of those claims

An interest in children as a story teller doesn't equate to bad motives as there are many people which interest in children for academic education interests or other. Even Disney has an interest in entertaining children and their interest is economic.

Perhaps if these issues came up in his life with witnesses etc... it would carry weight.. but they didn't and its more like speculation

It has to do with traditional British conservatism, so please do not worry your silly little head over it. Beside Carroll is a product of the British upper class school system, which says much,

Also there much evidence to suggest that those of the conservative mindset are more likely to abuse children, but that is a debate for another thread.

Where There's Abused Children There's Conservatives

This debate is about the mindset and character of Lewis Carroll, and his religious and political conservatism come to the fore. Now if you please, what are your opinion (if you have any) about Lewis Carroll?

It's impossible to know what went on in the minds of these artists, or what might have happened to them to cause them to express themselves as they did. This guy wrote a 15 THOUSAND page manuscript entitled: "The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What Is Known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion". He also created many painted collages of children in various stages of undress.

Meet Henry Darger ... an 'outsider' artist from Chicago IL.

And there's the painter known as Balthus:

"Balthasar Klossowski de Rola (February 29, 1908 – February 18, 2001), known as Balthus, was a Polish-French modern artist. He is known for his erotically charged images of pubescent girls, but also for the refined, dreamlike quality of his imagery.

Throughout his career, Balthus rejected the usual conventions of the art world. He insisted that his paintings should be seen and not read about, and he resisted any attempts made to build a biographical profile. A telegram sent to the Tate Gallery as it prepared for its 1968 retrospective of his works read:

NO BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS. BEGIN: BALTHUS IS A PAINTER OF WHOM NOTHING IS KNOWN. NOW LET US LOOK AT THE PICTURES. REGARDS B." - wikipedia

Perhaps the author's rather traumatic childhood could explain much.

For some reason the sons of Baladine Klossowska were obsessed with themes of paraphilia. I wonder why.
