Robocalls can now get blocked by your carrier by default

Robocalls are one of the few issues the FCC is totally aligned on — the unwanted calls are by far the number one issue consumers file complaints about. Pai, a Republican, has called them the “scourge of civilization,” while Geoffrey Starks, a Democrat, said that the unwanted calls have “changed the fabric of our culture”
Sort of like the wolves can protect the hen house analogy isnt it?

Are robo calls a hack of the phone system or a something generated in the phone system for profit? Maybe a substantial fine for each robo call back to the telecoms is in order. To me i see it as a telecom issue but i may be wrong.

Edited:
"Commissioner Michael O’Rielly, a Republican, said he was concerned about “giving carriers such vast discretion to decide which calls are unwanted.” The power could “lead to wanted calls containing highly pertinent consumer information being blocked,” he said."

It seems like the ole internet issue" on the one hand we want to do this but on the other hand its being abused. If we correct the abuse them we can no longer do what we want to do" issue. Greed is a funny bedfellow.

It's gotten ridiculous. About half the calls I get at my business and on my cell phone are telemarketer scum and scam calls.

I get a call from a new number each day, but its the same people most of the time. This has to do with international telephone interchanges and the ability to spoof telephone numbers through those exchanges.

Phones have become nearly useless. Unless I recognize a number I don't answer, and I don't expect anyone else to, either.

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend".

I wouldn't just stop there with robocalls, I would address the easy way a lot of scammers can get their hands on just about a gazillion phone numbers they can use and manipulate while staying purposely incognito.
