Lies and Phony Caricatures of Christianity

Biblical archaeology is the root of archaeology. Just like textual criticism is a biblical scholar's work, and has been practiced for millennia.

Prejudice?

ROFL!!

the prejudice is from hostile, anti-bible activists, trying to dismiss centuries of facts, scholarship, and research, for some hostile, anti-christian theories, that have no basis.

..funny how progressives always flip things, and accuse others of what they do themselves..
:(

You are correct.. That's how archaeology began and has failed miserably. Bible Archaeology and Archaeology are totally different disciplines.

The Bible, as History, Flunks New Archaeological Tests By GUSTAV NIEBUHR Archaeologists working at excavation sites like Megiddo in northern Israel, above, say that no evidence has been found to confirm biblical stories about a united monarchy ruling over a large area from Jerusalem or about the wanderings of the Jews in the desert during the Exodus.

Several clarifying points, about this thread:

13. The bible is full of errors.
14. The bible has changed many times.

..seem to be universally believed, by the anti-Christian posters here. Do they evidence this claim? No. It is repeated, loudly, as a propaganda meme.. a NARRATIVE, with no factual evidence. These are NOT true, but are indeed, false narratives, to discredit Christianity as the competition.

No evidence is given, just assertions and repeating the narrative, as though that makes it self-evident.

Many anti-Christians were Christian. We have studied the Bible heavily, as well as the history and evolution of religions prior to Judaism. The only folks who disagree with 13 and 14 are fundamentalist Christians.

Fundamentalism is an awful cheat.

As requested by a poster, i am listing a set of what i perceive to be caricatures and phony narratives about Christianity.

This assumes a specific, exact, historical definition of Christianity, as defined by the Founder.

1. Christians hate science.
2. Christianity is responsible for all wars, exploitation, and oppression.
3. Christianity is the same as islam, but not as peaceful.
4. Muslims would love us, and live in harmony, if they weren't triggered by the hateful Christians.
5. American Christians want a theocracy.
6. American Christians want to ban all books but the bible.
7. The bible is the source of all hate and oppression in the world.
8. Christians want to force everyone to believe, and go to church.
9. Christians hate atheists, agnostics, Buddhists, muslims, Hindus, and any who do not believe as they do.
10. America was founded by irreligious skeptics, who saw the evil of Christianity and tried to keep them from meddling in the lives of others.
11. Christians want to control and manipulate everyone.
12. Christians cannot reason or follow science, as they are blinded by their superstitions.
13. The bible is full of errors.
14. The bible has changed many times.
15. Hitler was a Christian.
16. Christianity is an opiate for humanity, squashing free expression.

There are more, and i am sure the helpful posters here will chime in with additional false narratives. We can debate the merits of each charge, to see if there is any validity, or if they are bigoted smears, from a competing ideology.

I look forward to a civil and informative discussion.
13 and 14 are not strictly false narratives.

Jesus was born a Jew and died as Jew, he had nothing to do with Christianity.
Paul was the founder of the modern-Christianity, a myth created in the name of "Christ" a pagan symbol. Right, please?

Regards
Like i always say..

Everybody gotta believe something..

Facts are often irrelevant, in people's beliefs. Especially if the culture is in the middle of an ideological shift. The old one is smeared and vilified, to make the new one seem shiny and hip..

Unfortunately, the New Boss is just like the old boss.. human religious systems tend to work that way...

Very ironic. So you dismiss all other archaeologists, and lap up the revisionism and crackpot theories from an anti-christian web site..

I planted some flowers in my front yard, and didn't find any fossils to corroborate universal common descent.. it's a big hoax!!!

The internet is wonderful. Used to be, you had to have real science, to be published, or taken seriously with any 'theories' from arguologists... i mean archaeologists.. ;)

But now, any kid living in mom's basement can fire up a website, make outlandish claims, and have people monetize his sites with eager hits.. anything to discredit & smear that horrible Christianity!!

BTW, 'gullible' isn't in the dictionary.. you can check if you like.. :D

Ok, lies, then.. ;)
Uh, no. The Bible does contain factual errors. It also contains several contradictions. Plus, the Bible has changed over time. The canon wasn’t settled until almost 500 years after Jesus.

Right. There is no evidence that Judaism and Christianity happened, as described in the bible, with THOUSANDS of manuscripts, archaeological discoveries, extant corroboration, and millennia of careful, linear, scholarly research, but someone finds a post-it note, dated 5000bc, pretending to be the Real, Authentic, Truth of All Religions, and gullible anti-christian bigots eat it up like candy...

/shakes head/

Archaeology has to stand on its own.. Its really that simple. If the work supports the Bible myths from Sumer or Egypt or Ras Shamra that's fine too... But, you can't manipulate the findings to prove a story.

The Bible was never intended to be science or history. Its supposed to make you think.. The stories are myths, but the messages are important .. far more important than some silly children's story about a global flood.
Unfortunately, when those with an authoritarian mindset embrace religion, they make their perspective, the only perspective and scripture or any holy text is elevated to be equal to deity. In Christianity, this is a big no-no, but that proscription does not stop the authoritarian. Authoritarian minds seem to be able to justify a lot of prohibitions from the very book they deify.

Actually, Christianity took a giant step backwards in 1919 out of fear of modernity. Same thing happened to Muslims in 1979.

Fear drives rigid fundamentalism.

People sure believe funny things about the bible. Progressive Indoctrination goes all out to smear the competition!

Ah, good..
Another narrative to add to the list!

:D

Funny how propaganda works on people. Just keep repeating the lies loudly, in 3 part harmony, and the indoctrinees glaze over and nod like bobbleheads..

An olde English translation? This indicates 'error!' to you? I am skeptical, anyway. I've not heard any translation to 'unicorn!', in any language or era.

You sure you didn't just get fooled from some anti-christian web site? ..happens a lot, these days..

We really should address the earlier list, before piling on more.. you're competing with Goebbels, smearing and demonizing xtians like this.

..Then have the gall to deny you don't promote these lies and caricatures?

What's next? Christians eat children?
Love Godwin's Law. You are a very confused and angry person. Wouldn't it be better to reflect on the teachings of Christ than tilt at windmills?
