I predict that all of the current religions will wither and die over the next 200 years. They will be replaced by one uniting belief: a new order of religion that is nature-based instead of magical (supernatural). The idea of eternal life of worthwhile nature will be flawlessly reasoned and mankind will enjoy a new sense of purpose. I promise!

How do I know it will happen? I'm privy to how it will be done. 2020 is when it begins. Call BS if you want. IDC!

I will neither answer questions nor respond to replies. I will say that you can forget all of those PEW projections. They don't account for the introduction of a dark horse or the increasingly viral nature of information sharing.

IMO, humans are really bad at making predictions about the future.

They don't need to. Even without that, your prediction is so improbable that we might as well just say it is impossible. Short of artificial intelligence or extraterrestrial takeovers that forcibly brainwash the the majority of the human population, it isn't happening.

Why did you have to interject common sense and reality into the discussion?

Though we walk different paths we are of the same mind (well close enough)!

All rivers lead to the sea.

Oneness is where we recognize we're One, and others are One, so we have Oneness...

Oneness is not sameness. We can know we are all part of the same bouquet including appreciating the variety of expression of that oneness.

In an ivory tower religion is ideal and all is well. Where the rubber meets the road you will find adversities, setbacks, conflicts, tragedies, and dilemmas.

The future of religion is universality across all divides. There will be no demands to believe specific dogmas and stories but rather a pursuit of all encompassing core values.

Religion needs goals. The pursuit of a higher self, the pursuit of selflessness.

Religion needs a higher power than self.

We will never be gods. Humans must accept their own limitations, and work to progress through them.

Eternal life pursuits may or may not survive. It seems religion is closely tied with the eternal life. As it thrives so to does religion.

Religion will probably be less about belief and more ethics based if this is true.

In reading your responses I see several themes suggesting intellectual sloth:
1) Zero interest in how something this grand and visionary might be proved
2) Preference to say it cannot be done- or reversion to magical explanations
3) An instance where unlikely is equated to impossible; this lame theist trick

Lastly, do not suggest that I miss the point of debating. I provided this topic.
Rael started this "united religion" in 1973... he has about 100,000 members but probably a lot more hanging on.

Based on what? Eternal optimism in support of your own brand of belief?

They will be replaced by one uniting belief: a new order of religion that is fully nature-based instead of magical (supernatural).
What is that belief?

The idea of eternal life of worthwhile nature will be flawlessly reasoned and mankind will enjoy a new sense of purpose. I promise!
How do you predict this will be done? What is that purpose? How can you promise something that is only a prediction that is not predicted to occur in any of our lifetimes?

How do I know it will happen? I'm privy to how it will be done. 2020 is when it begins.
How are you privy and to what?

If you do not care, why establish a presence on the internet? This always floors me. I am presenting myself to the world and making huge claims, but really I don't care. Really I don't.

Great claims require great evidence and d**n strong arguments.

Yeah, I get that. You are here to teach us, but it is in some new cool covert style that teaches without telling us anything.

Are you sure you are not promoting some software product or something like that? If you are going to try and give me a Watchtower, you can just move on down to the next house.

In reading your responses I see several themes suggesting intellectual sloth:
Do you mean grand assertions followed by nothing or vague references. Yeah. I see that too. Is this the bloom of something interesting or a lot of hype?

1) Zero interest in how something this grand and visionary might be proved
Zero information on what you are talking about.
2) Preference to say it cannot be done- or reversion to magical explanations
No reason to say much of anything except comment on how the presenter is presenting.
3) An instance where unlikely is equated to impossible; this lame theist trick
We get it. You are not a theist.

Lastly, do not suggest that I miss the point of debating. I provided this topic.
You have asserted and alluded and nothing more. You have my interest. Heck, you may have the makings of a strong supporter or a challenging opponent or nothing, but how can we ever know? Providing a topic is not debating. Making assertions is not debating. Declaring you will not respond is definitely not debating. You seem intelligent, I think you can figure out the math we did on this.

My faith in Buddhism is unshakable so I have no doubt I will remain Buddhist no matter what happens.

What if Maitreya returned and asked you to follow Him and He taught there is a God? Would you faithfully follow Him as the Buddha told Ananda when asked Who would teach Buddhists in a later era or would you go your own way and ignore what Buddha and Maitreya say and listen to what the local monks say?

And what if Buddha returned and the monks called Him an imposter what would you do? Who would you believe because we are at that point now where everyone’s sincerity is being tested.

I'm guessing a white horse.

If what she says was to come to fruition then you'd be forced to or die. That's the only options. I feel like we both have the same answer to that question despite being different religions.
I tend to agree with you. The delivery was rather ominous.

I have not thought about maitreya yet.
So until i can verify that maitreya has arived i keep following Sakyamuni. And no Sakyamuni will not return, so when someone say they are him, i walk away.

You should always follow Buddha as He is the Enlightened One. And it’s most important to verify. I didn’t really believe in Buddha until about 45 years ago. Now I love His teachings and guidance as much as Buddhists do. The only difference between you and me is I believe Baha’u’llah to be Maitreya but in believing that it also means I accept Buddhism as a true religion. So as Buddha is an integral part of my belief I read His Words with the same love and devotion as I would the Bible or Quran. Buddha is part of me.

Buddha Sakyamuni did say a few times that Maitreya would appear around 5000years after Sakyamuni, So now it has gone 2660 years since the passing of Sakyamuni, that means it is not yet time for Maitreya to arise from being a bodhisattva to become a Buddha. Because the first sign is that he is a Bodisattva :)

Hi Amanaki. I believe you are a very sincere person as do many here and in saying that I am not wrong.

In a recent post I deleted I wrote that the Dispensation Of Buddha was to last 5000 years but deleted it because I didn’t want to annoy you. But now you’ve brought it up!!

Anyway I went on to say that yes He, the Holy and Enlightened One said that but then added later that because women entered the samgha His religion would only last half that time. Which makes it then around 2,500 years which indicates Maitreya has already appeared.

I didn’t want to be too testing out of respect to you so I deleted the post as I consider you a friend and that is more important to me than right or wrong or winning any silly theological argument because I believe in Buddha too so we are brothers. (I hope) And also we are told to love people of all faiths so it is better to love you than anything else as what’s the point of religion if it’s only to argue.

So I deleted it because of respect for you and also that I value you as a friend so whatever you believe I respect that but we just share our views in a friendly manner if that’s ok.

First of all, I want to say a sincere thank you for the nice words.
I am unsure about if it was Buddha who said that about wimmen into the sangha or if that has been added later on, I honestly do not know (it can be from Mahayana texts maybe?.) But you should know that you can write what you feel is right for you to write here on the forum, You can not offend me :) If I do see you write something I think can be wrong, or I know the answer to it, I will give my answer to you.

A discussion about topics in any religion or cultivation path is always good as long we can respect each other's differences and views. And if you are unsur about a topic you want to discuss, but think it can offend, feel free to send a PM :) That count for anyone who have a direct question toward me or my cultivation practice.

Not all humans. Take a look at this written before 1957. A couple of them have already come true and the rest might come true too but the one on the Internet is very specific. World tribunal? ICC?

‘A world tribunal will adjudicate and deliver its compulsory and final verdict in all and any disputes that may arise between the various elements constituting this universal system.

A mechanism of world inter-communication will be devised, embracing the whole planet, freed from national hindrances and restrictions, and functioning with marvellous swiftness and perfect regularity.

A world metropolis will act as the nerve center of a world civilization, the focus towards which the unifying forces of life will converge and from which its energizing influences will radiate.

A world language will either be invented or chosen from among the existing languages and will be taught in the schools of all the federated nations as an auxiliary to their mother tongue.

A world script, a world literature, a uniform and universal system of currency, of weights and measures, will simplify and facilitate intercourse and understanding among the nations and races of mankind (Shoghi Effendi)

Even a broken clock is accurate twice a day. Even predictions I make happen to come true on occasion. I don't see that as actual knowledge of future events but more common sense and a bit of luck.

I recall many predictions made in the 70's about what the world would be like in the next century. A majority didn't happen. Sure sometimes someone will get something right but what all the predictions that didn't come true? We seem to forget about all the wrong predictions and hold out a handful that happened to turn out right.

Not saying humans are always wrong, but most of the time, they are wrong.
