When it comes to living a spiritual life, What does it take to truly call oneself a spiritual being?
What is needed to gain inner wisdom from a spiritual path in your understanding?

I'm also not sure what it means to be spiritual. I've met folks who declared themselves to be spiritual, and yet, from observing their immoral actions, I personally wouldn't have thought them to be spiritual.

There are many ways of looking at it, so perhaps, Amanaki, you could clarify what you think it means to be spiritual.

I don't consider myself to be spiritual at all, BTW.

Spiritual being can be understood (in one way) as someone who can understand the spiritual realm (nonphysical realm) And one who can attain wisdom from these realms. But there can be other ways of understanding what spiritual being is.

I believe that everyone has a spiritual soul, and is sourced in their Creator. They can lose sight of this, or be blinded by deception and sin, but the inner 'sense' of eternity remains, nagging their conscience, even in denial.

But, people believe many things. Everyone has to do their own believing, and their own dying.

I'm a "gain wisdom via spiritual path" agnostic. I view things in terms of lack of cognitive dissonance etc generally.

Unconditional love?
Yes, to find the self love..is held back by all its ego ness..to kill it!
Be best friends to a enemy..and learn to understand them!..it kills layers of ego!
Another is agreeing with the opposite sex..even if you don’t agree with it, let it play its way..you will learn more of life playing its way..as well killing your ego-ness..
Even with a young child!..listen to what they are really saying to you..they know more of true than we do..they are the reminder of our innocence! It’s amazing what one could learn from them.
Everything has it..it is the your hatred of things or discomforts..approach them and understand it..ego will fade..

You are of a highly spiritual way..I have my full respect in you: God
Shows of that is its powerful of ways of being. For are we all saved by the many different pathways.

When you say kill the Ego, would think you mean letting go of it. But it is the same so i understand you :)
When you say we always must agree with the other sex, this i do not understand? because if you just play along when not agree, would not that be a form of lies?

My understanding of the non-agreement is from an opinion neglecting of another opinion..and sometimes having to lie will make its outcome more of its truth!

I can not argue against you when it is your understanding :) We just see things a bit different :)

I'm not even sure what it means to be 'spiritual'.

I guess that means I'm not?
self doubt?

or just a play of debate on your part?

that you lack a line drawn in mind and heart
doesn't mean it isn't there

and I suspect you will someday trip over that line.....

surprise!!

Everyone is a spiritual being by default in my view. What some do or do not do with that differs.

But

To answer your second question.

Life's natural pain/trials/ordeals/tribulations these things help you figure out what's important and what to keep/get rid of. After that then comes wisdom from traveling the path. At the very least that was my path. I am sure there is more than one. But this was mine.

Fair enough. In that case, I am not spiritual at all. I don't believe in a non-material realm.

On the other hand, 'spirituality' is often associated with feelings of awe, wonder, and a sense of connectedness. And *those* I feel deeply and value immensely.

I basically agree.

Unconditional love?

There's a distinction that can be drawn between one who is an aspirant and one who has realized. The aspirant aspires to continuous unconditional love. The one who has realized experiences nothing but unconditional love.

I'll answer the question for myself: the ego can be conceptualized approximately as a cocoon or a veil if you like. It's something that is necessary and useful at one stage. But when it's time is over, the "butterfly" "breaks out" to live what it has become.

St Paul commented on this:
12For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. 14But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil." Heb. 5.
