Should we respect each others privacy?

Spirit of Light

Be who ever you want
I think it is important that we can be respectful toward each other and try to not overstep someone boundaries when it comes to privacy.

For those who take spiritual practice serious life is not about sex, body, alcohol, party, and so on. Life is about the inner journey, but sometimes it seems like people do not respect it in a public place.

So my question is. Should those who take spiritual path serious, be the one who must pull away from society because others want to be socalled free to do what ever they want?

I don’t know. If you’re planning to be a monk (or relevant equivalent) in your path, then perhaps.

But if you’re so serious, surely one would expect you to have the self discipline to control yourself despite what “the world” is doing. And I find that those who close themselves off to the world are the least challenged and weak in their faith. (Generally speaking.) So are completely unable to truly function as a human, let alone a spiritual one.

It may be better to remain in society and try to be an example.

I do cultivate the dhamma, not as a monk but not as a lay person either, So i do not go out in society a lot. But my question was mostly about this forum or other forums one may enter.
The reason we do go more or less in to seclution is because all the immoral and negativity in the world can destroy the peace and calm wiith in the mind. And as cultivator the world is of less and less interest.

The focus on sex, body and party in the world today is out of control and this is a reason why someone who do take the spiritual life serious do not wish to take part in it.

When it come to disipline, yes i do have disipline. But when someone add nude photos in a tread, then i think it is ok to react, i could just block the person/s but out of respect i would like them to get a change to do good deeds too.

You can always try wearing a burkha or other outward sign of wanting privacy when out in public.

Oh, you meant in the forum. The DIR's are more protected than the general debate threads.

Girl please. Plato was espousing such sentiments. And that guy lived, what? A few centuries ago!? Few thousand years?
I think people are so safe in their little bubbles they create for themselves that normal human behaviour becomes scandalised.
Did Jesus flinch when surrounded by prostitutes?
Did Krishna balk at demons?
No, they jumped into the “cesspit” of human existence and thrived.
And we’re supposed to emulate them? Cutting off the world just belies our own cowardice and denial.

Well, just saying. A Christian is someone who ostensibly strives to be Christ like, right? That’s literally their entire purpose, more or less.
So if Christ lived and preached among the sinners, why would a Christian want to do anything but? The whole idea of Christianity is to be like Christ and emulate Him. So it makes sense to get “down and dirty” with humanity in that context. Correct?

For a Christian person it migtht be as you say. But for a cultivating buddhist one can pull back from society and consentrate on the dhamma and the world within the mind. There is not much in this world that is needed to cling to, and if it does not help the cultivation why take time away from meditation to do other things?

I think it's unfair to others to expect privacy in a public place.

So yes, if one wants to conduct your spiritual practice in privacy, it is only fair to remove oneself from a public setting.

Modesty has to again find a balance. ;)

Going to the beach in most places now has become rather pornographic.

Regards Tony
Yes and maybe a reason why i do not go to the beach anymore.
There are not many programs left on TV that one can watch either! But that's ok, because one can spend more time immersed in an attitude of change.

Just out of curiosity, were you guys born fully clothed?

Well that’s two entirely different paradigms. What works for a Christian might not work for a Buddhist. Because ultimately they are different spiritual goals.

But even as a geeky, socially awkward introvert, I see cutting off social interaction as a detriment overall to the human experience, and therefore a detriment to spiritual concerns.

Well, Jesus did spend those 40 days in the wilderness after he was baptized being tempted by Satan.
