Found the ending pretty predictable, slightly boring and very rushed. It got an end, but I think they added a bit to much humor and jumped way to much in time, without really showing all the interesting reactions and things that led up to them meeting etc.

So overall I think the last season, could have used at least 2-3 episodes more to have really ended the series in a very good way.

Would like to hear others opinions as well?

With so much to be wrapped up in one episode,
it pointed to Danny being assassinated. But I
wouldn't have predicted John Snow doing it,
or Bran then becoming King.

It's all a sick freaking joke.

I voted predictable. But that's only because its par for the course, and I believe it to be a fitting end for the series.

I concur with Revoltingest: Jon Snow's act and Bran's election were surprises for me.
Checked to see if future seasons are planned, and was surprised to see that HBO plans a "prequel" series.
The way this season ended, I began to imagine several other seasons following any number of characters as they age. Who know?

BTW, I may need to go back and watch more closely: Tyrion's discovery confirms the death of one sibling and suggests the death of the other but, at this time, I confess that I'm not certain that I saw proof that the second died.

I enjoyed it and felt it was a worthwhile finale to the series. However, I personally would have started the season with the political intrigue and ended with the confrontation with the Night King.

Assassinations, backstabbing and characters crossing the moral threshold is the standard for the show. The Night King presented a threat to all sentient life and was built up as the thing that made the other power struggles seem petty by comparison.

I agree that it seemed rushed to me, like they were trying to wrap everything up quickly.

It might have been interesting to have Cersei captured alive to be put on trial. She was one of the most evil characters throughout the entire series, yet it's almost like the audience gets cheated by such a ridiculous ending.

I gave up expectations when Bran sat under a tree and sent mental birds to attract the Winter King. Having no expectations, then, I rather enjoyed the last episode. At least the dragon acted with honour.

Stopped watching a long time ago, I simply don't care about bad television so I just decided to quit early on the show. But at least now I know how it ends. Saved me 5 seasons!

No one would expect you to like GOT.
You're from a competing fictional universe!

I stopped watching in the 3rd season because it felt too traumatic and triggered my PTSD. It seems that they kill all the good people. The author is a jerk. Such a waste of good actors and actresses, and set people.

It sounds as if "The Mother of Dragons" died? That tops it.

I did go over to YouTube and found where Jon Snow kills Daenerys. Sad, such a waste from a mediocre author. I wonder what blackmail material he had on those who paid for such trash?

If you'd kept up with the series, you might want her dead.
(She became a vicious tyrant.)

Was about what was expected seeing as they tacitly acknowledged long ago that they couldn't be bothered finishing it properly, just wanted it over with and didn't have the grace to turn it over to someone else who could be bothered to finish it properly.

More like 2 or 3 seasons to finish it properly. Season 7 and 8 content needed 4-5 seasons, not 13 episodes.

Could have had a full season of content on what happens after Jon kills Dany.

The last episode was 15 mins of people walking around on their own, followed by an hour which had all the continuity and depth of a "previously on GoT" clip montage.

I saw lots of negativity about it before I watched (though I avoided any spoilers) but I didn’t think it was that bad. They painted themselves in to a bit of a corner with the plot line, which remained more literary than cinematic and making the talking and politics rather than something big and dramatic at the end inevitable. I think the complaints about it being both boring and rushed a little ironic. If they’d taken more time, it’d be called more boring and if they’d made it less boring, it’s be called more rushed. I don’t think they could win that one however they did it. There were too many different character arcs to close for it to be anything other than slow at the end.

It might have been better with the taking of Kings Landing to be more of a finale, stretching in to the last episode. Maybe them taking the city but then a siege of the Red Keep. They might have been able to close out some of the secondary characters earlier and focus on the core ones right at the end. Of course, the other option would have been to make the Night King the bigger threat, surviving Winterfell and continuing south, even as far as Kings Landing. That could have taken the plot to a more dramatic end though they’d still have the issue of closing all the character arcs without it dragging on.

Overall, Game of Thrones has been a very good and hugely popular series, both on TV and in the books. It probably built up too much expectation for a grand finale which could never be fulfilled but without that context, I enjoyed it and I’m sure will enjoy re-watching it at some point. I don’t buy all the hate and anger at the creators though. A lot of people need to get a grip of what is important in life.

I think you are misunderstanding many of the grumblings.

Many people found it boring (or at least underwhelming) precisely because it was rushed as this made it shallow. They had to miss out the interesting things that people would have liked to see, so people didn't really end up caring all that much. Watching a great football game live is exponentially more compelling than watching 5 mins of highlights as you can't build up tension and emotional impact in 5 mins.

Bran had been a peripheral figure for ages, then they just stick him on the throne. If they had bothered to develop his character then this would have been much more meaningful.

Would have been nice to see people's reactions to Dany getting killed rather than just skipping a month. Would have been nice to hear people talking about the state of the realm after all of the wars, and countless other things.

If they had beheaded Ned Stark in the 2nd episode then killed Joffrey in the 5th, these would have had far less resonance than it did after character development and audience identification with/against them.

I’ll give you underwhelming but I don’t see that as entirely down to the pacing but the fundamental plot. From the point Dany died, it was essentially “everyone lived (relatively) happily ever after” – nothing really dramatic happens after that. Stretching that out even further wouldn’t solve the complaints of underwhelming and would increase the complaints of boring. The only way to change that would be to fundamentally change the underlying plot and sequence of events. If it had only been a TV show, I suspect it would have been different but it is a novel adaptation, even in the later seasons when it’s technically the other way around.

Bran had been a peripheral figure for ages, then they just stick him on the throne. If they had bothered to develop his character then this would have been much more meaningful.
His character was developed over previous seasons, it’s just that people have short memories. I feel his being on the periphery knowing he would ultimately end up on the throne was a major part of the point. Again, literal subtly over TV flash.

I’m certainly not saying it was perfect or that they couldn’t have improved it with some minor changes. I’m just saying I think many of the people complaining are wrong to imagine that it would be easy to make it the amazing conclusion we’d all have liked to have seen and as a piece of complex storytelling, it wasn’t nearly as bad as so many seem to want to believe.
