It's all a sick freaking joke.

Well, the thing is, if this thing actually happened and I was actually there in that kind of situation, there may be any number of other factors and considerations in play which might temper or influence whatever decision I might make - even assuming that I'd be in a position to make such a decision in the first place.

Yes and you need to make a decision with minimal info based on your principles. So make the decision.

Oscar winning movie for best picture. Don't worry, I could have watched it for free and still only got part way through it.
I looked it up. It did pretty well at the world wide box office. Like Marvel Universe dollars. Of course popular and worth it are two different things. Otherwise, no Kardashians. Now if Kim was the woman, it might be morally wrong to pick her. Or would that be choice based on good sense outside of morals?

Huh?

You are crossing your wires again SubD.
Now why would you lie like that? I have never done that in our conversations.

Let me quote from the OP:

"You have only 1 spot left and the raft is at capacity. 2 survivors left asking for help."

And then you clarified later:

"Because you can only chose to save one."

Then at the top of the previous page you contradicted yourself:

"I chose the pregnant woman. Its possibly saving 2 lives, the mothers and the childs."

You can only save one. If you can only save one then you can only save the convict since saving the pregnant lady would save 2. I am only going by your rules.

Another loophole. We should have been lawyers.

Yes you can only save 1 person. The pregnant lady or the convict.

But by saving the pregnant lady I am saving 2 lives.

See you getting your wires crossed son!

Hypothetical situation.

You're airplane has crash landed in the ocean. Luckily the airline you used is one of the few that provides inflatable life rafts. You begin helping survivors onto the life raft. But it's almost full. You have only 1 spot left and the raft is at capacity. 2 survivors left asking for help.

One is a pregnant lady.

The other is a convicted killer in cuffs struggling to stay afloat.

Make your choice.
It is an interesting mental exercise. I always liked these sorts of questions. They get you to think. The mother is the obvious choice for reasons we have both mentioned, but is obvious the right way to go on a decision with a moral basis? That lead me to think deeper.

I am not the one with crossed wires. Once again that is you. You can't make up your mind if you are saving one or two.

Did you or did you not say that you can only save one?

You would make a terrible lawyer.

There is no loophole.
I beg to differ on both counts. Both loopholes are based on the evidence in the writing and logical steps from that evidence. Assuming human life begins at conception, the pregnant lady is two people. The OP clearly states there is only room for one. A very valid loophole.

Not one I would use, but it exists.

And he confirmed it by stating that doing so would save two. Some people cannot think consistently.

It is a loophole that allows you to save to lives when the rules say you can only pick one.

Rules say I say I can only pick 1 person based on the room available in the raft. It's clearly stated in the OP.

Even though the pregnat woman counts as 2 lives, she only takes up the space of 1 person. Which meets the requirements of the hypothetical situation.

No loopholes. :D

Stick to your day job, avoid law school. :p

I would file a strongly-worded complaint with the FAA for not mandating that planes carry enough life rafts for all passengers.

And as for the life rafts, let's just hope they're not from the A-1 Life Raft Company.

Clearly you need to check in for a mental health check up.
You can keep repeating that like a mantra if you want, but it does not make me wrong. It leads me to suspect you agree or you would counter my argument logic and facts and not be turning to ad homs.
