Judge orders Trump accounting firm to hand over records to Congress - CNNPolitics
“History has shown that congressionally-exposed criminal conduct by the President or a high-ranking Executive Branch official can lead to legislation,"
...
“It is simply not fathomable that a Constitution that grants Congress the power to remove a President for reasons including criminal behavior would deny Congress the power to investigate him for unlawful conduct -- past or present -- even without formally opening an impeachment inquiry,"
Mehta's opinion will now likely become fodder for other judges to consider as Trump and his Cabinet try to hold off Congress from getting his business records, such as through the IRS, banks and in other court fights.

As I said before, everything is going to be brought out into the light. And sooner rather than later.

And it is a good thing, regardless of what they find or don’t find.

Yes I agree. I mean if they don't find a crime Trump should be free. However why all this hiding if he has nothing to hide. Yes it all comes to light theres a bible scripture that says something like that.

Trump is going to appeal the court's ruling, so that his accounting firm won't yet be able to turn over copies of Trump's private financial records to the Democrats in Congress who wish to play politics with Trump's business enterprises.

Uh no. They've already said he will have to hand over his records no matter what. the court will not rule in his favor.

It is my understanding that there is no stay on this order. Trump can and surely will appeal. But the documents will already be in the hands of the oversight committee by then.

And realize that Trump is not being asked to hand over anything. These documents are not in his hands. The accounting firm has them, and will hand them over.

”The court is well aware that this case involves records concerning the private and business affairs of the President of the United States. But on the question of whether to grant a stay pending appeal, the President is subject to the same legal standard as any other litigant that does not prevail,"

I suppose Trump's accounting firm might find themselves in big trouble if they turn over Trump's financial records if a higher court were to block this from happening while Trump's legal challenge is pending on appeal.

He will appeal but , it has to be handed over right away , the court wont delay it, he can appeal, i
This was a lower court ruling, which Trump can challenge to a higher court.

He can appeal to the higher court but it has to handed over immediatly, so Dems will have it, he can still appeal but the papers are being handed over to democrats. So if he goes to court it will be a long fight but eventually itll be shown. But Democrats have or will have in the next week the papers.

No the paper shave to be handed over now, the appeal will take along time so but the papers are handed over now. But they wont be revealed to the public till it goes through appeal which could take awhile.

No, the accounting firm has 7 days to submit to Congress the info they requested. So that gives Trump 7 days to file an appeal.

Yes it takes a few days its not literally now. Its in a week, if the judge does not rule a stay for Trump then he has to hand it over in 7 days.

But most of the time the judges rule for Congress over sight in these matters so hopefully we will get them.We may have to go another year in court year and a half of appeals is the only thing before the public can see it.

I don't see this going very far.

Looks to me like the DNC is in death throws and literally grasping at straws.

I think the concern is that congress will leak it.
The Feds have a legal right to view anyone's tax return for investigation purposes. They don't have a right to make them public.

U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta said Trump's accounting firm Mazars has seven days to comply with the subpoena. Trump’s lawyers are almost certain to urge an appeals court to extend the deadline and then reverse Mehta’s decision.

7 day is the maximum time they could take, not the minimum. They could hand the documents over tomorrow.

You think an accounting firm is going to hand over financial documents of a client that has made them millions of dollars instantly? That's not very realistic. They will take 167 hours and 59 mins. (That's 1 minute short of 7 days)

Only the Ways and Means Committee. The power is specifically applied to that group not all of the Fed. This was create in 76 and 78 due to Nixon and Watergate.
