What makes us girls is the new book by Brittany Pettibone, where she basically explains that women are losing their femininity, because of mainstream feminism.

Well...as for my personal experience, I can't but underline that my two sisters are hardly feminine, since they have always been bossy and aggressive with their boyfriends.
Whereas I've always been submissive, nurturing and sweet to my ex boyfriends. So I get Brittany perfectly.

I like how the women who served at the door of the tabernacle gave their bronze mirrors and their beauty mirrors were used to make the bronze laver to wash before sacrifices at the tabernacle

I also like how Job's youngest daughter was named 'little makeup box' (ok in Hebrew its horn of jewels... same thing )

Can't loose something I never believed in to begin with.

People are people. Their character, their personality, doesn't need to be stuffed inside dated and sexist boxes to make sense of it and respect it.
But I was referring to Brittany's book...mainly...

I think they are bringing up one side of the issue, but its not merely a modern issue but one that repeats. To put it into perspective requires seeing it occurs repeatedly in History. There are times and places where women are overly protected and hobbled perhaps for centuries, and when that mistake begins to be corrected we call it feminism. There is regularly a need for women to prove themselves that they are capable of becoming whatever is needed, because all of society questions whether they have the strength/wit/humanity. On other other hand what these girls in the video are saying is very true, too that the feminist counter tends to make women feel like they have to pretend to be men. Its not just a modern issue though. Its not owned by modern feminism only, and its not a conspiracy to destroy women. In our case its a reaction to what has seemed like confinement and belittlement. All of the rules and customs can sometimes come together to create a single effect, and then feminism rages against all of it to bring balance and awareness and could yes overdo it sometimes. Suddenly holding doors for ladies is not Ok, and people wonder why. Well its just part of the foam upon one of the waves of the sea of humanity. As the current goes in and out this happens repeatedly. The ladies start to say "I don't need you to hold the door, because I'm capable of opening my own doors" despite no one having any intention of belittlement. Its part of the function of the big clock that goes round.

Lol...it has nothing to do with the job you work. You can be a plumber and be sweet and caring to your husband :)
I agree and thank you for saying that. I was reacting to your comment about mainstream feminism.

In America, mainstream feminism is about females having the same job opportunities as males and being paid the same wages for the same work.

Look, most people don't want to partner up with a grouchy know-it-all. But, like I said, everybody's different. I think people should be themselves. If in the moment, a person feels like being a grouchy know-it-all, I vote: go for it. I think it's better to be sincere than to be repressed.

((One problem I see behind some of our social problems, including the glorification and growing popularity of cruelty, brutality and ugliness, is contempt for qualities that are sometimes considered feminine. What I call “counterfeit feminism” or “man-hating feminism” might be more a symptom of that, than a cause.))

I think they're wrong to blame feminism for the fact that women are living in a very patriarchal society that naturally reveres and rewards male characteristics.
I just wanted to ask people what they think of Pettibone' s book...since she's engaged to an Austrian activist I know...that's all. :)

I haven't read the book. But from what I know it isn't feminism that is to blame per say, but radical feminist of which there are several variations. Christina Hoff Sommers - Wikipedia is a feminist I follow who has written some books on this as well. Perhaps Pettibone's books are similar in nature?

Yes, I know Sommers. I guess Pettibone wrote that book after the #metoo movement, as she started realizing that man-woman relations should be healthier and should be normalized in order to avoid a gender war. Which is a term Sommers uses frequently.

It's the rad fems that hide away in their echo chamber safe spaces. They lock themselves away to quarantine themselves from opposing positions. But that only breeds zealotry and hate. Because there is no opposition to keep the ideas in check. Sunlight is the best disinfectant here, and we need to keep a spotlight on all radical groups be they white supremacist, antifa, religious extremism, or even militant atheism. Allowing/forcing these groups into their own spaces where there is no opposing ideas is the worst mistake we can make.

I don't fear a gender war. Though a very small % of women may attempt it. There are far too many people of all genders that oppose a gender war, so we have that going for us.

There may be a civil war nonetheless. At least in the U.S. though there is signs of it in the E.U. as well. But the result will be the same regardless. Nobody wins.

My lady very bluntly silenced a feminist once with the most hilarious conversion she had between a female friend of hers. The girls were talking about their men and apparently they sounded like very domesticated housewives so an enraged feminist walked over and explained to them some garbage about sexism, liberation or something silly because it didn't make sense to me no matter how hard she tried. She essentially didn't like the fact they are both very docile and all they did was talk about their husbands. To add insult to injury they were very dismissive toward her.

Eventually my lady and her buddy look at the girl and laugh at her informing her that sounds like disobedient behavior and their husband's wouldn't like it. I was so put on the spot because I have never demanded anything from my wife nor do I control her yet in her eyes I am literally a god to her and her buddy treats her husband in a very similar manner. My lady is a strong minded individual but gets very upset with people challenging my supposed authority over her and it baffles me considering she grew up hating her conservative father and loving her libertarian mother.

All feminism is quackery as far as I am concerned and I try to have feminists explain it to me but because I do not dive into the literature I have never found anything of good repute about it from the people who profess to be feminists. So I do not have any well versed response to feminism but I just cannot find anything good to say about something I do not understand.

Btw ... I know a woman who is very feminine and she drives the ATAC buses in Rome Very hard-working person.
So mainstream feminism forgets women can achieve any position nowadays.

The Pettibone twins have an odd view of feminism, IMHO. They also seem to be equating traditional sex roles and attitudes with natural roles and attitudes. They need to read more anthropology and fewer comic books and pop culture magazines. "What comes naturally" is not the traditional, mid 20th century behaviors they seem nostalgic for.

Maternalism (I'm reading 'nurturing'), compassion, generosity and warmth are features of both sexes, but vary in degree with different cultures. One shouldn't assume ones own culture is universally normative -- or proper.

Culture is flexible. It changes to meet new circumstances. Should we be clinging to obsolete but once functional attitudes and behaviors?

Women in many societies were once relegated to subservient roles. Their behavior, dress, attitudes, &c reflected this. Women had to keep their heads down to get along.
Today's western norms are less oppressive, largely because "uppity, desexed, unfeminine" women (read: feminists), rose up against their cultural constraints.
I see a parallel with the civil rights movement. Much the same things were said of the 'unnatural, uppity negroes' in the late 19th and early 20 centuries.

Feminism doesn't "encourage women to become men." It encourages women to dress and behave functionally. To be a successful lumberjack, CEO or taxi driver one must adopt the behaviors, attitudes and dress most functional in these roles.

Dresses in Moscow? In conservative societies like Russia or Arabia, expect a more clear cut sexual dichotomy. In terms of fairness or human rights, this is not a good thing. A woman in Riyadh who removes her hijab is not "trying to become a man."
