I store everything on the cloud. This leaves less clutter on my laptop's hard drive and my other devices' storage.

Another benefit is that I can access anything from any of my devices, from my laptop to my phone to my tablet.

Cons: It just seems like you might not want the most sensitive files on the Cloud as it probably isn't quite as secure as keeping them on your hard drive with backups.

Passwords and encryption.

If you are only using once device, however, unless you have storage capacity concerns, use of cloud storage may not be necessary, though it does facilitate getting info from an old device to a new one.

Data is usually transferred from one machine to another with a flash drive if one isn't using cloud storage.

We have 2 clouds (3 if you include our NAS). Everything on our computer, tablets, phones and cameras is backed up to them. Two may seem overkill but i have known internet service providers to disappear into the sunset without a word. Having 2 clouds is insurance.

If the computer turns belly up all it will take is a little time to bring its replacement up to computer we know and love

I had a tablet lock in the dreaded restart loop just last week. Full reset and 2 hours later you wouldn't know the difference.

Bonus, we can get to documents, pictures etc anywhere there is an internet connection. I was in the UK a couple of weeks ago and needed some pics to show a friend...

I learned quite a few years ago "save as and save often."

Have backups in more than one medium and more than one place, at least for anything that's important to you. The cloud would be a good place independent of your devices, home, workplace, etc.

If you're all synched up, all it takes is hacking one to expose all you have

People shudder at the thought, but the cloud, the net, the grid, your ISP, and so on, can go away...mostly through the malevolent action of others (hackers, governments, etc.), or through accidents of various sorts...and I have already heard stories from people who put all their family pictures and copies of important documents in the Cloud...and suddenly their files vanished...and the helpdesk did not seem to know why or how to recover...

You don't say what operating system you run on your laptop. Windows? Mac OS? Linux?

The "cloud" is hardware independent. So where your information is stored, nobody can really say. Which means your actual information is stored on several machines. One server goes down another takes over and you never know a computer just died and that all gets backed up to a different server or storage facility. So if this second computer goes down/dies, again you'll never know. Your information gets reincarnated into a new body an infinite number of times. It will never die regardless of how many physical machines it passes through.

So your information is out there floating like on a cloud. Ideally, immortal.

Although they take security seriously, it will all potentbe eventually hacked. Banks use the cloud. All of your banking information is out there waiting to be hacked whether you use the cloud yourself or not.

Buy gold/silver, store it in a safe at your home. Purchase a couple of assault rifles to keep it safe.

It's all actually pretty fragile IMO. However this is the core of our economy.

I really don't know clouds at all...

Clever. I'll play.

Hey! You! Get off of my cloud. Clouds in my coffee, clouds in my coffee? Maybe, but I can see clearly now - the rain is gone - and I've got sunshine on a cloudy day, even in the month of May.
