Is there any link between conservative political and social views and living a stale, passionless life?

I don't have any firm conclusions, but I have some very strong suspicions. Today's conservatism isn't like the conservatism I grew up with and once espoused. It is far heavier, far more oppressive, far more fearful, far angrier than anything I've ever seen before on the conservative side of the aisle. There seems to be very little positive and upbeat about it.

I've been wondering if internalizing such views and opinions can lead people to live fearful, angry, oppressed lives? Lives that seem to them stale, dull, boring, and passionless?

I don't see a whole lot of upbeat, happy conservatives these days. Just angry, fearful ones who seem to be kept alive only by their hatred of liberals. Of course, I could be wrong about that. I'm been married. I know what it is to be wrong about everything.

What do you think?

Trying to be conservative disrupted my spiritual growth and created a temporary "us vs. them" mindset for me.

Huh.

I think you are looking at them from a very biased POV.

Naturally you would prefer your own views to conservative ones, and think that yours is superior to theirs. However, from my own biased POV, I say that the anger is coming from the left...which sees oppression everywhere, are prickly beyond belief, who see everything said by a conservative as racist, misogynistic and sexist, and who come up swinging whenever they see or hear something that might possibly offend them. This does not strike me as a happy way to live.

As for me, I have lived as a conservative (mostly...I too had my liberal years, and haven't entirely gotten over them) for close to seventy years, and I can't see that my life has been stale, dull, boring or passionless.

I haven't run off and been a starving Bohemian artist, either...but then, I find no real advantage in that.

I see a lot of modern "tribal" conservativism is about being against things, rather than for things, and that way lies the destructive nevative mindset

From my experience, the 'us vs them' mindset has been firmly established ....by the liberals. I mean...the irony of your post in light of this thread is pretty telling, don't you think?

As a somewhat left leaning liberal (in the true meaning of the word, not the american anyone a conservative doesnt like meaning of the word) who has embraced the conservative dream of winning and in true liberal fashion sharing that win, i agree with you 100%, conservatives can be awfully depressing people.

Eh not really? What are you trying to prove? That conservatism affected me positively and improved my sense of understanding?

I like this contest between liberals & conservatives about who is worse in what way.
But we all know that only libertarians live vibrant lives full in interest & unstale passion.

As has already been mentioned, I think you are seeing exactly what you want to see.
Of course, I see pure reality (unlike all the others).

Honestly? I think politically engaged people are far more likely to be joyless regardless of where their views fall.

How can they not be? Despair seems like the only realistic take on the current political climate.

I've also heard reality has chocolate cupcakes. I'm trying to figure out if the cake is a lie or not.

Tribal liberals are equally as bad, if not worse. It's not conservatives who created the current outrage and call-out culture that plagues social media today.

Also, the left can't meme, nor do they understand memes. The only reason people think the OK hand sign is a white supremacist symbol is because far-left media was stupid enough to take a 4chan meme seriously, and then actual far-right groups started making the OK hand sign to troll the left, thus reinforcing the meme.

The real problem in this country isn't the left or the right, it's tribalism, pure and simple. Everybody's stuck in their own little bubble, and we need to pop all of them so people will treat those outside their tribe like actual human beings and not faceless incarnations of evil.

They're real, albeit topped with strawberry confection.

I've noticed they become joyless when some things afflict them too much....
- Fear the sky is falling upon a world going down the tubes.
- Having "The Truth", & becoming upset at people who don't have it.
- Forgetting to have fun with & joke about our miserable condition.

Both sides have their dour, joyless puritans.

On "progressive activist/SJW" front it is all about grievances, thought policing, manufacturing offence and self-righteous arrogance.

On the other side you have your religious puritans and paranoid delusions of nefarious conspiracies involving Muslims/gays/Marxists/etc.

Most folk are fine though, regardless of which way they lean politically.
