Do Women Have Souls?

Ellen Brown

Well-Known Member
I'm not Muslim, but I'm familiar with Islamic beliefs. In Islam, any person is considered to have a soul; however, women souls are enslaved to men souls.

Oh, this just gets more bizarre. :) In very conservative Christian Churches, Genesis 3:16 is very hard to confuse, but the advent of Feminism has robbed men of their pleasure. I've seen Mormon women get very indignant over this, and in that culture, it is obvious that the women are the ones that get things done. Yet, their leadership act like their holding a hot potato.

Since Genesis 3:16 is part of the Jewish works, I would be very interested to see how that plays out. It just gets funner and funner.

The Church of Latter Day Saints has tried to recruit me and my family to join their Church. Once every so often, they've sent a couple of elders, who were actually highly attractive young male models, to visit me and my family at our home. We've been very kind, receptive, appreciative, respectful and friendly towards each other. I've provided them with refreshments and snacks. If I were to follow any religion other than Matrixism, I'd probably be a Latter Day Saint.

This thread is in the Sunni DIR. That means that those not identifying as Sunni should NOT be participating except to ask polite questions.

10. Debating in Non-debate Forums or Posting in DIR/ONLY Forums
Religious forums is structured to provide spaces for many different kinds of conversations. Different kinds of conversations belong in different areas of the forum:

1) Debates should be kept to the debate areas of the forums, including Religious Debates, General Debates, and Political Debates. Debating anywhere other than these forums may result in moderation. Same Faith Debates is governed by special rules described here. Only members of the specified groups(s) can participate in these threads.

2) All DIR (Discuss Individual Religions) forums are for the use of members who identify with those groups or practices. Debating is not permitted in DIRs; debates between members of specified groups should be posted in Same Faith Debates. Members who do not identify with a DIR group may only post respectful questions; we recommend creating a thread in the Religions Q&A instead where there is more freedom to comment. DIR forums are not to be used as a cover to bash others outside of the DIR group.

3) The Political World forum has several "only" subforums that are for the use of members who identify with those political leanings. Members who do not identify with those political leanings are not allowed to post there. The staff more strictly moderate Rule 10 violations where there is some other rule violation involved, such as preaching in a DIR or trolling a political forum a member doesn't belong to. More benign violations may be subject to informal reminders or moving threads to the appropriate location.

I'm Sunni. Does that mean I can't talk to Christians, or Jews, or Zoroastrians? Um well, I'm actually Abrahamic Religionist. :)

This is an exclusively Alawite belief. That's probably where they heard it from.

Interesting. Well I know less about the Alawites than other post-Islamic and Ghulat sects/traditions. However I can see it being very viable that that idea applied to regular Muslims is a piece of propaganda, often stuff like that is spread by Wahhabis and the like, propagated among Sunnis against Shi'ites etc but yeah, the idea though (Women not having souls) is really weird to say the least.

I was often told that there are more women in hell than men. I think it was a tactic to control women. It may be in the Quran ???

No, it's a Bukhari narration. Dodgy enough in itself but I've never heard/seen Sunnis ever promoting that idea personally.

According to the sources I have access to, their reason for believing this is their belief that women were created by devils. They take this from the ninth century Ghulat text Kitab al-haft wa'l-adhilla, also known as al-Haft al-sharif (available in English here) which ascribes to Imam al-Sadiq (on the supposed authority of his student Mufaddal) some very terrible statements about women, including the notorious hadith which states that most of the people in Hell are women. It is indeed a very strange idea.

Women have souls.
Still researching. Apparently the early Catholic church taught that. Google says that "Orthodox (what does that even mean?) Muslims" believe this. Being Muslim, I never heard this.
I truly recommend you search information about Islam from reliable sources where the information comes from scholars - instead of Christian apologists or ignorant non-Muslims, or even questionable scholars. Orthodox Muslim (a term extremely few Muslims use for good reasons) means Muslims who follow traditional Islamic faith; the Qur'an and the ahadith.

Because there are more women in the world than men.

Your sources are false Shia propaganda but I repeat previous ^

Not propaganda, I'm just saying what these particular people believe.
As if you knew. Besides, this is Sunni DIR. Why are you even here? You might as well visit the salafi thread you made and tell me your definition of Salafism.

I am not Sunni however I have never come across even the most head the ball Salafi who believes that women do not have souls. I have come across head the ball Salafis alleging that Thomas Aquinas claimed and even that in certain places and times that Christians used to generally teach that women do not have souls, both of which are outright lies.

It is evil and hateful for anyone to say that of a woman. Some also say that there are more women in Hell than men. That is evil.

That was Muhammad.

Yes, it was. But I do not understand it. In my own experience, we can not say which partner rejects the other. It is custom that a man only has to say to himself, "I divorce you" three times and he is divorced. Does a woman have the same privilege?

It is because women will form the majority of the entire humankind. Also it is reported that in Jannah every man will have two wives.

"O gathering of women! Give in charity, for I have seen you as a majority of people in Hellfire. You curse others often and you are ungrateful for your livelihood. I have not seen anyone with reductions in mind and religion more capable of removing reason from a resolute man than you."
Grade:sahih

A woman doesn't have that privilege but she also does not have the responsibility then to support the man for three more months. The reason the 'lack of this privilege' is a problem at times is sociological. Women should be protected if their husbands won't do that or if the husband is the reason for the need of protection.

In a healthy relationship usually the husband would agree to the divorce.
